Michelin Accelerates Smart Mobility and Sustainability with Advanced AI and Data Analytics

TLDR: Michelin is spearheading a significant transformation in the mobility sector by extensively integrating artificial intelligence and data analytics. This strategic shift aims to foster safer, more efficient, and sustainable transportation solutions, aligning with the demands of the Industry 4.0 era. Key initiatives include real-time tire monitoring, AI-driven production optimization, and a strong commitment to environmental targets like net-zero emissions by 2050.

Michelin is at the forefront of a profound revolution in smart mobility, leveraging the power of data and artificial intelligence to drive advancements across its operations and product offerings. The company’s strategic embrace of AI and smart analytics is designed to create increasingly safer, more efficient, and sustainable transportation solutions, marking its leadership in the Industry 4.0 era.

According to Mr. Jason Tan Jing Shen, Managing Director of Michelin for Việt Nam, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos, the company’s vision is to achieve this by ‘building and empowering a world-class organisation: one that champions a sustainable tomorrow through our innovations, nurtures talent, and advances sustainability.’ This commitment extends to dedicated connectivity solutions, innovative tire inspection technologies, and the development of crucial insights to enhance road infrastructure safety.

One of Michelin’s flagship innovations is the Smart Predictive Tire solution, an integral part of Michelin Connected Fleet. This system utilizes sensors and advanced data analysis algorithms to monitor tire conditions in real-time, predicting potential damage risks early. Its implementation helps businesses optimize maintenance schedules, significantly reduce vehicle downtime, save fuel, and lower CO2 emissions. The solution’s practical contributions to safety, performance, and sustainability were recognized with the I-Innovation Award at the SOLUTRANS international exhibition in 2023.

Beyond product innovation, Michelin is also applying artificial intelligence within its production facilities. The Group is developing robotic solutions specifically designed for the complex handling of flexible composites, streamlining manufacturing processes. To accelerate the integration of AI capabilities across its global production network, Michelin has partnered with Microsoft. This collaboration focuses on deploying innovative digital solutions that optimize energy use management in its factories worldwide. This partnership is crucial for the Group’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and fulfill its ambitious commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Michelin’s overarching ‘All Sustainable’ vision underpins these technological advancements with clear environmental targets. The company aims to use 40% renewable or recycled materials in its production and reduce CO2 emissions by 50% compared to 2010 levels by 2030. Looking further ahead to 2050, Michelin is committed to achieving 100% sustainable materials and net-zero carbon emissions. Furthermore, all natural rubber volumes used by the Group will be assessed as ‘deforestation-free,’ reinforcing its dedication to environmental stewardship.
