Meta’s Facebook Overseas Acquires 30% Stake in Reliance’s New AI Venture, Committing Rs 855 Crore Investment

TLDR: Meta Platforms’ subsidiary, Facebook Overseas, has acquired a 30% stake in Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Ltd (REIL), a new AI venture by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries. Both companies will jointly invest an initial Rs 855 crore (approximately $102.5 million USD) to develop, market, and distribute enterprise AI services in India. Reliance Intelligence, a wholly-owned subsidiary of RIL, will hold the remaining 70% in REIL, which was incorporated on October 24, 2025. The collaboration will leverage Meta’s open-source Llama AI models and Reliance’s extensive enterprise network to offer AI platform-as-a-service and industry-specific solutions.

MUMBAI: Meta Platforms, Inc.’s Facebook Overseas is set to hold a 30% interest in Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Ltd (REIL), a newly formed artificial intelligence venture by billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries. Reliance Intelligence, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), will retain the majority 70% stake in REIL. The two global giants have jointly committed an initial investment of Rs 855 crore (approximately $102.5 million USD) into the venture.

According to a filing made to the exchanges by RIL, Reliance Intelligence Ltd officially incorporated REIL on Friday, October 24, 2025. Reliance Intelligence will contribute Rs 2 crore towards the initial subscription of 20,00,000 equity shares, each valued at Rs 10.

This strategic collaboration marks an extension of the relationship between Meta and Reliance, which first began in April 2020. At that time, Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook invested $5.7 billion (Rs 43,574 crore) in Jio Platforms, securing a 9.99% stake and becoming its largest minority shareholder in RIL’s telecom business.

REIL, incorporated in India, is established as a joint venture company under an amended and restated joint venture agreement with Facebook Overseas, Inc. The primary objective of REIL will be to develop, market, and distribute enterprise AI services across India.

First announced at RIL’s Annual General Meeting in August 2025, the joint venture aims to harness Meta’s open-source Llama AI models, combining them with Reliance’s significant enterprise reach. The partnership is designed to deliver two core offerings:

1. Enterprise AI Platform-as-a-Service: This will enable organizations to customize and deploy generative AI models tailored to their specific needs.

2. Pre-configured AI Solutions: These solutions will be developed for various industries, including sales, marketing, IT operations, customer service, and finance, providing ready-to-use AI tools.
