This groundbreaking move, set to debut with the fourth-generation MBUX system powered by MB.OS in the all-new CLA model this summer, aims to transform Mercedes-Benz vehicles into secure and highly functional mobile offices.
At the core of this integration is an enhanced Microsoft Teams app, designed to bring seamless collaboration to the road. Drivers will be able to participate in video conferences using the vehicle’s built-in camera, with safety as a paramount concern. To minimize distraction and comply with global traffic regulations, shared content and video streams from other participants will automatically be hidden from the driver’s view when the vehicle is in motion. The updated Teams app also features a new dashboard displaying ‘Next Meetings,’ quick access to frequent contacts, and an expanded chat function with voice control for text input. Users can also jump directly from their calendar appointments into Teams meetings, streamlining their workflow.
Security and enterprise management are addressed through the native integration of Microsoft Intune into MB.OS. Mercedes-Benz is the first Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to embed this widely used enterprise mobile device management platform directly into its operating system. This integration allows company IT departments to remotely manage vehicle-based accounts, set security policies, and securely separate personal data from corporate information. It ensures that the vehicle meets the same enterprise-grade security standards as other mobile devices, supporting productivity apps like MBUX Notes and Calendar.
Further elevating in-car productivity is the planned integration of Microsoft 365 Copilot. Leveraging generative AI, Copilot will act as a next-level productivity companion, enabling drivers to manage tasks entirely through voice commands. This includes summarizing emails, retrieving client preferences and details, and preparing for upcoming meetings without diverting attention from the road. This feature has the potential to establish the vehicle as a ‘third workspace,’ complementing traditional office and home environments.
