Lunos AI Secures $5 Million Pre-Seed Funding to Revolutionize Accounts Receivable with AI Agents

TLDR: Lunos AI, a fintech startup, has publicly launched with $5 million in pre-seed funding led by General Catalyst and Cherry Ventures. The company aims to transform the inefficient accounts receivable (AR) process in B2B commerce by deploying AI agents that automate communication, negotiation, and reconciliation, thereby improving cash flow and reducing manual labor for finance teams.

New York, NY – September 30, 2025 – Lunos AI, an innovative fintech startup, today announced its official public launch alongside a significant $5 million pre-seed funding round. The investment was co-led by prominent venture capital firms General Catalyst and Cherry Ventures, signaling strong confidence in Lunos AI’s mission to fundamentally redefine accounts receivable (AR) processes through advanced artificial intelligence.

The company is tackling a pervasive inefficiency within the modern economy: the complex and often manual methods by which businesses collect payments. While consumer transactions have largely moved to seamless, upfront digital checkouts, an estimated $100 trillion in B2B trade still relies on post-delivery payment settlements. Despite decades of technological advancements in software and payments, this critical financial function continues to be heavily dependent on the manual efforts of millions of finance professionals globally, characterized by an endless stream of emails and PDFs.

Duncan Barrigan, Founder and CEO of Lunos AI and former Chief Product Officer of European payments unicorn GoCardless, highlighted the core problem: “This isn’t a payments problem… it’s a communication and negotiation problem.” He further explained, “Finance teams still spend countless hours chasing people over email, answering questions, updating spreadsheets, finding new contacts, and reconciling payments with incomplete information. This human approach is required because every customer and invoice is different – but it isn’t scalable, and it can’t be optimized the way a consumer checkout flow can.”

Lunos AI addresses this challenge by introducing an AI worker designed to replicate and enhance the traditional accounts receivable approach. Finance teams can interact with this AI agent via familiar platforms like Slack and email, as well as through Lunos AI’s dedicated web application. The AI connects seamlessly with existing data sources such as QuickBooks and Netsuite, enabling it to analyze every customer interaction, determine the optimal course of action, and manage two-way conversations with customers regarding their balances and invoices.

Barrigan articulated the company’s ambitious vision, stating, “Business payments shouldn’t feel like the Wild West. Our vision is to provide AI workers that power agent-to-agent B2B commerce. This creates a network of AI agents that communicate amongst each other on behalf of businesses.” This approach aims to bring unprecedented efficiency and automation to B2B financial operations.

General Catalyst expressed enthusiasm for Lunos AI’s potential. “We’re excited by Duncan and the team’s ambitious vision to redefine receivables and payments for B2B commerce, leveraging AI in a way that’s both practical and transformative,” a representative stated.

The newly secured funds will be strategically deployed to expand Lunos AI’s team and enhance the capabilities of its AI agents. Future developments include adding advanced reconciliation features, payment orchestration, and end-to-end cash flow optimization. Furthermore, Lunos AI plans to develop an embeddable agent that can be integrated directly into financial products offered by accounting, invoicing, and CRM providers.
