LG Uplus and KODATA Forge Alliance to Develop Specialized AI for Finance and Enterprise Sectors

TLDR: LG Uplus has partnered with Korea Enterprise Data (KODATA) to develop an artificial intelligence foundation model tailored for the enterprise and financial industries. This collaboration leverages LG AI Research’s Exaone large-scale language model and LG Uplus’s ixi-GEN domain-specific training technology, aiming to create customized AI services like conversational agents and automated report generation. The initiative is part of LG Uplus’s broader ‘All in AI’ strategy, targeting KRW 2 trillion ($1.4 billion) in B2B AI revenue by 2028.

SEOUL – LG Uplus announced on September 2, 2025, a strategic partnership with Korea Enterprise Data (KODATA), a leading comprehensive credit rating agency, to jointly develop an artificial intelligence (AI) foundation model specifically designed for the enterprise and financial sectors. This collaboration marks a significant step in enhancing digital transformation within these critical industries.

KODATA, recognized for holding South Korea’s largest repository of corporate data with over 14 million company records, brings extensive data expertise to the partnership. Its robust infrastructure allows for comprehensive analysis of diverse corporate information, including financial conditions, credit ratings, and real estate ownership status.

The technological backbone of this specialized AI model will be LG AI Research’s ultra-large language model, ‘EXAONE’, integrated with LG Uplus’s ‘ixi-GEN’ domain-specific learning technology. A key aspect of this development is the incorporation of Domain Adaptive Continual Pre-Training (DACP) technology, which is designed to significantly boost the AI model’s accuracy and domain understanding by continuously adding specialized industry data. This approach is expected to yield highly optimized AI models for various industry verticals.

The partnership aims to introduce a suite of customized AI services that will notably improve the operational efficiency of financial industry professionals and corporate clients. These services are envisioned to include advanced conversational agents capable of searching corporate information interactively and systems for automatically generating detailed reports.

Jung Young-hoon, head of the Enterprise AI Business Division at LG Uplus, emphasized the practical implications of this alliance, stating, “With this partnership with KODATA, we have been able to realize AI services that provide practical support on the financial frontline. We will continue to create new business opportunities with AI technologies tailored to the needs of customers in each industry.”

Echoing this sentiment, Lee Rae-hyung, head of AI Transformation at KODATA, commented on the synergy of the collaboration: “The combination of KODATA’s data expertise and LG Uplus’s AI technology will provide financial industry clients with a new digital experience. We will continue to collaborate to advance financial AI agents.”

This initiative is a core component of LG Uplus’s ambitious ‘All in AI’ mid- to long-term growth strategy, which seeks to concentrate the company’s entire capabilities on AI development and application across all services. The telecommunications giant has set an aggressive target of generating KRW 2 trillion (approximately $1.4 billion USD) in B2B AI-driven revenues by 2028.
