TLDR: Aderant, a leading provider of business management solutions for law firms, has acquired the legal technology assets of HerculesAI, a specialist in AI-driven billing compliance and decision intelligence. This strategic move aims to significantly enhance Aderant’s artificial intelligence capabilities, particularly within its work-to-cash solutions, by integrating HerculesAI’s advanced machine learning tools and a team of approximately 20 legal technology employees.
Atlanta, GA – August 7, 2025 – Aderant, a prominent global provider of business management solutions for law firms, today announced a definitive agreement to acquire the legal technology assets from HerculesAI, a company renowned for its expertise in AI-driven billing compliance and decision intelligence. This strategic acquisition marks a pivotal step for Aderant in its mission to deliver a fully automated, insight-rich, and agile work-to-cash solution for the legal industry.
The acquisition specifically includes HerculesAI’s legal technology products: Apollo, an AI-driven time and activity capture tool; Athena, an AI-powered email management solution; and Verify, an AI-powered pre-bill review platform designed to detect and correct billing compliance issues. Approximately 20 employees associated with these legal product lines will transition to Aderant, bolstering its AI engineering and data science talent. Notably, this is a carve-out deal, meaning HerculesAI, formerly known as Zero Systems and founded in 2017, will continue to operate its non-legal product lines focusing on the insurance and financial services sectors, with its founder and CEO Alex Babin and the executive team remaining with the original company.
Chris Cartrett, President & CEO of Aderant, emphasized the transformative potential of this acquisition. “This acquisition is a game-changer for our clients,” Cartrett stated. “By integrating HerculesAI’s advanced compliance engine with our industry-leading work-to-cash platform, we’re not just automating workflows—we’re enabling intelligent automation that drives measurable profitability. Law firms will gain unprecedented precision, speed, and confidence in their operations.” He further added, “AI-centered development is at the core of our strategy, with many successful product releases in recent years. This acquisition will only enhance the AI engineering and data science talent within Aderant. That’s not just a win—it’s a strategic leap forward.”
Aderant plans to embed HerculesAI’s advanced machine learning and decision intelligence into its existing solutions, including its AI-powered virtual associate, MADDI. This integration is expected to unlock new levels of automation, insight, and agility for law firms globally, proactively preventing revenue leakage, boosting realization rates, and redefining compliance as a strategic advantage. The combined technologies are designed to provide real-time enforcement of outside counsel guidelines (OCGs), internal billing policies, and historical patterns, delivering audit-ready analytics and one-click resolution of billing issues.
Alex Babin, founder and CEO of HerculesAI, commented on the synergy between the two companies. “Aderant is a leading force in legal technology, and each of HerculesAI’s legal products fits naturally into their portfolio,” Babin said. “This move strengthens Aderant’s end-to-cash offering and further transforms compliance from a bottleneck into a business accelerator. Just as important as product synergy is the cultural alignment between our teams – a shared commitment to solving real problems for customers.” HerculesAI had previously raised $26 million in Series B funding and launched its Verify platform, which claimed to detect up to 50% of billing compliance issues before client deductions.
