Kuwait Oil Company Achieves Landmark AI Success with “G Agent” Drilling Initiative

TLDR: Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has announced the successful implementation of its “G Agent” drilling project, marking a significant advancement in its adoption of artificial intelligence for enhanced operational efficiency. This initiative, a collaborative effort with Microsoft, Halliburton, and Ghaia.ai, leverages agentic AI to revolutionize drilling rig resource management, real-time data analysis, and decision-making processes.

Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has achieved a pivotal milestone in its digital transformation journey with the successful deployment of the “G Agent” drilling project. This initiative represents KOC’s first major triumph in integrating artificial intelligence into its core operations, promising a new era of efficiency and innovation within Kuwait’s vital oil sector. The announcement, highlighted by the Arab Times on September 14, 2025, underscores KOC’s commitment to leveraging advanced technologies to meet the ambitious goals of Kuwait Vision 2035.

The “G Agent” project is the culmination of a strategic partnership between KOC, global technology giant Microsoft, leading oil and gas services company Halliburton, and agentic artificial intelligence specialist Ghaia.ai. This collaboration has been instrumental in developing a sophisticated AI solution designed to optimize the management of drilling rig resources, facilitate real-time data analysis, and accelerate decision-making.

According to KOC CEO Ahmad Al-Eidan, the “G Agent” deploys “smart digital agents that think, act, and evolve—working for humans to unlock new levels of efficiency and innovation.” This agentic AI system moves beyond traditional automation, creating a dynamic framework for seamless collaboration between AI agents and human teams across various departments. The expected outcomes include enhanced operating capacity, streamlined decision-making, and the provision of precautionary solutions, giving a significant momentum leap to KOC in data analysis.

The foundation for this groundbreaking project was laid through earlier strategic initiatives. In May 2025, KOC, in collaboration with Microsoft, hosted an “AI Executive Roundtable workshop” titled “Reimagine Drilling with Agentic AI.” This workshop brought together KOC Group Managers and Team Leaders to explore the strategic role of AI in transforming drilling operations and driving operational excellence. Furthermore, the opening of the KOC AI Creativity Center in August 2025, as reported by KUNA, was a crucial step in Kuwait Petroleum Corporation’s (KPC) transformative strategy. Oil Minister Tareq Al-Roumi emphasized the intention to link oil fields with AI technology to increase production, enhance operational capacity, and reduce costs. KPC CEO Sheikh Nawaf Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah noted that the center would reduce the number of days required to drill a single oil well and increase overall operational efficiency, while affirming that AI would complement, not replace, human expertise.
