The program, which began in November 2024 for T Level Cyber learners, aims to foster a responsible approach to AI development and deployment.
KPMG, a leading professional services firm, has joined forces with the Milton Keynes College Group, specifically its South Central Institute of Technology (SCIoT), to launch a comprehensive Data and AI Ethics Programme. This strategic partnership aims to cultivate essential skills in ethical artificial intelligence, preparing the next generation of tech professionals and enhancing the capabilities of the existing workforce.
The collaborative effort has resulted in a six-week course, structured into six distinct modules or workshops. The curriculum delves into critical aspects of AI, including the imperative for an ethical approach to data and AI utilization, effective management of associated risks, and foresight into the evolving world of AI. Participants explore topics ranging from understanding the unintended consequences of AI applications to recognizing best practices in ethical risk assessments.
The program’s genesis dates back to 2023, when discussions between KPMG and SCIoT began on how to educate future talent on the importance of ethical thinking in AI. The first cohort of the Data and AI Ethics Programme commenced in November 2024, targeting T Level Cyber learners. Delivered face-to-face by industry-leading professionals from KPMG, the sessions are highly interactive, centered around real-world scenarios that encourage group discussions and collaborative problem-solving.
Leanne Allen, UK Head of AI at KPMG, highlighted the long-standing relationship, stating, “We’ve been working with MK College Group as an anchor partner since 2019 – giving its staff and learners access to our experts. When it founded SCIoT, we were keen to get involved – especially with the conversation around ethical application of AI.”
Caroline Indge, Head of Partnerships and Innovation at MK College Group, underscored the program’s value: “At Milton Keynes College Group we are acutely aware of the importance of Artificial Intelligence, the benefits it brings and potential risks. Working with KPMG to create an engaging programme that enables our curious and inquisitive students to understand the importance of applying ethics to their thinking has been invaluable.” She further added that KPMG’s business intelligence and passion significantly enrich the learning experience, bringing real-life ideas and concepts that enhance debates.
