K’omani Energies and Africai Establish Pan-African Green AI Alliance for Sustainable Digital Future

TLDR: K’omani Energies B.V. and Africai have officially launched the Pan-African Green AI Alliance, an initiative designed to integrate clean energy infrastructure with responsible AI governance across Africa. The alliance aims to unlock over $1 trillion in AI-driven economic value by 2030, while prioritizing digital sovereignty and climate alignment. Initial efforts include establishing a Green AI hub in Lagos, powered by 500MW of renewable energy, and publishing a joint policy paper titled ‘Green AI for Africa’.

Amsterdam, October 3, 2025 – A significant stride towards Africa’s digital and climate future has been made with the official launch of the Pan-African Green AI Alliance. K’omani Energies B.V., a Netherlands-based leader in renewable-powered infrastructure, and Africai, a pan-African platform dedicated to AI governance and policy, formalized their agreement on September 26, 2025. This partnership marks the continent’s first integrated framework to combine robust clean energy infrastructure with ethical AI governance.

The Alliance operates on a dual-pillar strategy. K’omani Energies is set to deploy renewable-powered energy storage systems, establish sovereign data centers, and provide GPU compute clusters across Africa. Complementing this, Africai will spearhead the development of governance, policy, and adoption frameworks, ensuring that AI implementation is ethical, sovereign, and inclusive for African nations. This collaborative effort is projected to help Africa realize over $1 trillion in AI-driven economic value by 2030, while simultaneously fostering digital sovereignty and aligning with global climate goals.

Immediate actions are already underway to translate this vision into tangible impact. Lagos, Nigeria, has been designated as the inaugural Green AI hub, slated to be powered by an impressive 500MW of renewable energy. Furthermore, the partners are set to release a joint policy paper titled ‘Green AI for Africa,’ outlining their strategic approach. The Alliance plans to actively engage with key continental bodies such as the African Union, the African Development Bank (AfDB), and Smart Africa, alongside various national governments. An adoption roadmap is also in development, featuring pilot projects in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Rwanda, and South Africa.

Leaders of the Alliance have voiced their strong commitment to this initiative. Olusegun Paul Andrew, Chief Executive of K’omani Energies B.V., stated, “This partnership ensures that Africa’s AI future is powered by clean energy and firmly under African ownership. With Africai, we are bridging the gap between hardware and governance to deliver real value to our people.” Prince Malik Ado-Ibrahim, Executive Chairman of Africai, echoed this sentiment, adding, “The Green AI Alliance reflects Africa’s right to shape its digital destiny. By combining K’omani’s infrastructure with Africai’s governance mission, we are creating a model of ethical, sovereign, and sustainable AI that the world can learn from.”

To ensure robust African equity and participation, the Alliance is committed to mobilizing investment from sovereign wealth funds, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), and climate finance institutions. Future expansion plans include establishing additional hubs in Nairobi, Accra, and Kigali, with the ambitious goal of positioning Africa as the first continent where AI is predominantly powered by renewable energy.
