TLDR: Kintone has officially launched its AI Lab, a generative AI service designed to democratize app building by enabling users to create custom business applications using simple text commands. This initiative aims to tackle high development costs, digital transformation complexities, and the IT talent shortage, making app creation accessible to businesses of all sizes without requiring coding expertise.
Kintone, a leading provider of business application platforms, has announced the official launch of its Kintone AI Lab. This new generative AI service is set to transform how businesses develop custom applications, allowing users to create sophisticated tools and manage workflows through intuitive conversational chat commands, effectively eliminating the need for traditional coding or specialized developer skills. The service is currently available as a free beta embedded within the Kintone platform.
The Kintone AI Lab is strategically positioned to address several pressing challenges faced by modern businesses, including the escalating costs associated with custom software development, the inherent complexities of digital transformation initiatives, and the pervasive shortage of skilled IT personnel. By empowering existing staff to design and implement applications, Kintone aims to foster ongoing digitalization and enhance operational efficiency across organizations, from small and medium-sized businesses to large enterprises.
Key capabilities of the Kintone AI Lab include the AI App Creator and the AI Process Creator. The AI App Creator interprets user requests, such as ‘I need an app to track customer inquiries,’ and subsequently recommends a suitable application structure with relevant fields. This feature, which began its beta rollout in April 2025, allows users to consult with the AI to refine app forms and layouts. Similarly, the AI Process Creator assists users in configuring workflows and approval processes, facilitating the conversion of manual, paper-based tasks into streamlined digital systems via a chat-based interface.
This approach encourages companies to initiate digital transformation projects with smaller, manageable steps, achieve measurable improvements, and then scale their efforts. Kintone emphasizes that these AI-powered tools enable employees to tackle operational hurdles and drive digital change internally, reducing reliance on extensive external support.
Security and data privacy are paramount to the Kintone AI Lab. The service incorporates enterprise-grade security measures, including stringent permission settings managed directly through the Kintone platform, ensuring that sensitive business data remains protected.

Prior to its full launch, Kintone had been developing and testing these AI functionalities, with beta versions of features like ‘Search AI’ (formerly ‘kintone AI Assistant’) and ‘App Creation AI’ being progressively rolled out since April 2025. The company’s goal with the AI Lab is to leverage user feedback to rapidly update and improve the practicality of its AI-driven features, ensuring Kintone remains a comprehensive platform for business improvement and productivity enhancement in an era of IT talent scarcity and rapid technological advancement.
