KB Financial Group Pioneers AI Agent Development to Revolutionize Financial Services

TLDR: KB Financial Group is leading the Korean financial sector by developing an ‘artificial intelligence (AI) agent’ to expand services and enhance customer experience. This strategic move, part of their ‘KB with AI’ transformation, includes launching AI-powered investment and financial counseling services, aiming for autonomous judgment and problem-solving capabilities.

KB Financial Group is making significant strides in the Korean financial landscape by prioritizing the development of an advanced ‘artificial intelligence (AI) agent.’ This initiative aims to broaden the scope of their services and cater to diverse customer and sales demands, marking a pivotal shift in the industry. The group’s proactive approach is seen as a strategic response to the evolving technological paradigm, moving towards ‘Ageotic AI’ capable of autonomous judgment and problem-solving, rather than mere reactive responses.

Under the leadership of Chairman Yang Jong-hee, who was observed engaging with new technologies at the ‘MWC25’ exhibition in Barcelona, Spain, in March, KB Financial Group has established ‘KB with AI’ as its core AI transformation strategy. This comprehensive strategy underpins the development of their AI agent.

Key affiliates are already rolling out AI-powered services. KB Kookmin Bank, a major subsidiary, introduced an ‘AI investment discretionary service’ in August. This service leverages AI to enhance the returns on retirement pensions, with a robo-advisor (RA) automatically managing portfolios based on customer investment profiles and market dynamics. This allows individuals without specialized investment knowledge to efficiently manage their personal retirement pension (IRP) accounts through AI algorithms. Kookmin Bank plans to further expand this service by collaborating with Mirae Asset Asset Management and Korea Investment Trust Management within the current year.

Furthermore, KB Kookmin Bank intends to launch ‘non-face-to-face RA investment advisory services’ this year. These services will extend beyond retirement pensions to encompass stocks, bonds, and alternative investments. Utilizing AI-based investment algorithms, the service will analyze global market data to propose optimized portfolios for customers. A simple investment propensity diagnosis will enable customers to immediately assess their risk tolerance, target returns, and a suitable portfolio that aligns with their acceptable loss levels.

KB Card is also set to introduce ‘Everyone’s Card Life Mate,’ an interactive financial counseling service. This innovative service, recognized by the Financial Services Commission, will employ AI to analyze customer queries and provide tailored financial information.

KB Financial Group’s ambitious ‘KB AI strategy’ and ‘KB AI agent roadmap’ outline plans to deploy over 250 AI agents across 39 core business areas within the group. To foster an AI-driven culture, the group has established the ‘KB GenAI Portal,’ a first in the financial sector. This portal provides an environment where all executives and employees can utilize and develop AI without requiring coding expertise, thereby enhancing work productivity and transforming operational methodologies.
