In a landmark development for the Indian film industry, veteran actor and Member of Parliament, Kamal Haasan, officially inaugurated India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) filmmaking course in Kochi. The initiative, driven by Pixel Pupa, a startup supported by the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), introduces a three-month hybrid program under its newly established ‘School of Storytelling’. This pioneering course is meticulously designed to merge traditional creative storytelling techniques with cutting-edge AI technologies, heralding a new era in digital filmmaking education.
The inauguration ceremony, held in Kochi, saw Kamal Haasan unveil the official portal for the School of Storytelling. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan commended the venture, highlighting it as a testament to Kerala’s progressive strides in both social and technological domains.
The Kochi-based institution will be led by Varun Ramesh, a prominent AI industry trainer and generative AI storyteller. The curriculum has been developed by a diverse team of accomplished filmmakers, technicians, and AI experts from across South India. It encompasses a comprehensive learning experience, including online sessions, live workshops, hands-on AI creative labs, and interactive sessions with leading content creators and technicians from the Malayalam film industry.
Beyond the core filmmaking course, the School of Storytelling is set to offer a suite of specialized programs. These include AI Photography, AI Cinematography, AI VFX (Visual Effects), and AI Animation, providing a holistic introduction to the evolving landscape of digital narrative creation.
