BNP Paribas Personal Finance UK has officially announced the appointment of Jon Betts as its new Chief Operating Officer, a strategic move aimed at further enhancing customer experience and operational efficiency. The appointment, effective September 4, 2025, positions Betts at the forefront of the company’s efforts to leverage digital innovation and technology in its service delivery.
Betts brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having spent over a decade in the financial services sector. His career includes significant tenures at industry giants such as GE, Lloyds Banking Group, and most recently, Close Brothers. At Close Brothers, he dedicated over ten years to leading customer-facing operations and meticulously improving the end-to-end customer journey, skills that will be crucial in his new capacity.
His vision as COO is firmly rooted in harnessing digital tools to create smarter, more flexible solutions that meet the evolving expectations of today’s customers. Betts emphasized the importance of self-service capabilities, particularly for younger generations, stating, “as customers, particularly younger generations, lead such busy lives, the ability to self-serve and do it in their own time is a really powerful tool for us to help make life easier for customers by being able to make purchases and manage their accounts on the go.” He also acknowledged the continued need for human interaction, ensuring well-trained teams are available to provide support when required.
A notable aspect of BNP Paribas Personal Finance UK’s forward-looking strategy, which Betts will oversee, is its ‘Innovation Lab’ incubator. This initiative is actively exploring emerging technologies, with this year’s participants delving into the potential of generative AI to further improve the customer experience.
Betts’ leadership will also reinforce the company’s ‘We Think Customer 1st’ commitment. He outlined three core tenets: simplifying customer journeys to ensure smooth interactions, utilizing enhanced tools like a customer listening framework to act on feedback, and consistently meeting regulatory expectations not just out of compliance, but from a belief in responsible conduct. “My focus here will be around assessing our current capabilities and how we’re providing solutions for our customers, particularly when they need our support — and ultimately, how this can be improved,” Betts added.
Stephen Hunt, Chief Executive Officer of BNP Paribas Personal Finance UK, expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment. “We’re entering an exciting phase of development and growth, and Jon will play a key role in driving our ambitious vision to be the leader and most trusted provider helping customers in three important areas of their lives; around the home, finances, and mobility,” Hunt stated. He further highlighted Betts’ role in upholding the company’s high standards, built on over 50 years of consumer finance experience, by leading operational teams in evolving and enhancing the customer experience.
