TLDR: Software security leader JFrog is expanding its DevSecOps platform to encompass artificial intelligence (AI) model management, aiming to unify DevSecOps, MLOps, and governance into a single, robust solution. This initiative addresses critical concerns such as security, data provenance, and bias within AI models, ensuring they are managed with the same stringent controls as traditional software artifacts. The JFrog ML platform, a result of the 2024 QWAK.ai acquisition and enhanced by partnerships with NVIDIA, offers end-to-end lifecycle management for AI models, from versioning and traceability to security policy enforcement and continuous monitoring.
JFrog, a prominent name in software security, has announced a significant expansion of its DevSecOps platform to integrate the rigorous management of artificial intelligence (AI) models. This strategic move aims to create a unified platform that seamlessly blends DevSecOps, Machine Learning Operations (MLOps), and governance, ensuring that AI models are treated with the same level of scrutiny and control as conventional software artifacts. The initiative is designed to tackle pressing challenges related to security, data provenance, and bias inherent in AI models.
At the core of this expansion is the JFrog ML platform, which serves as a comprehensive registry for managing the entire lifecycle of AI models. This includes crucial functionalities such as versioning, meticulous provenance tracking, streamlined model promotion, and the stringent enforcement of security policies. The platform’s advanced metadata and promotion workflows are engineered to guarantee that AI artifacts progress through development stages only after successfully passing all requisite quality, security, and legal checks, thereby ensuring immutability.
Beyond initial deployment, JFrog’s solution facilitates the continuous monitoring and updating of AI models to maintain compliance with evolving regulations. It also enables the centralized management of critical patches and AI model updates, mirroring the established practices for traditional software. To further bolster security and compliance, the JFrog ML platform incorporates role-based access control (RBAC), providing transparent traceability for all access to AI artifacts.
Kristian Taernhed, senior technical alliance manager at JFrog, highlighted the overarching objective: to deliver a unified repository that empowers DevSecOps teams to manage all their software artifacts, including AI agents and models, within an on-premises IT environment. This capability is vital for leveraging scanning tools to prevent the inadvertent incorporation of malicious AI models into applications, underscoring the importance of locking down the software supply chain for AI development.
This strategic enhancement follows JFrog’s acquisition of QWAK.ai in 2024, which significantly contributed to the development of the JFrog ML platform. Furthermore, JFrog has deepened its collaboration with NVIDIA, expanding integrations to include the Enterprise AI Factory. This partnership allows software artifacts generated using NVIDIA’s frameworks to be securely housed within the JFrog Software Supply Chain Platform.
The company’s commitment to addressing the evolving landscape of AI security is further evidenced by its ‘Software Supply Chain State of the Union 2025’ report. This report sheds light on emerging software security threats and highlights concerns regarding inadequate ML model governance.
