Isotopes AI, Led by Former Scale AI CTO, Launches Aidnn Agent to Revolutionize Big Data Analytics

TLDR: Isotopes AI, a new startup co-founded by Arun Murthy, former CTO of Scale AI and a key figure in Hadoop’s development, has emerged from stealth with $20 million in seed funding. The company introduced Aidnn, an advanced AI agent designed to bridge the gap between complex data infrastructure and business users. Aidnn allows managers to interact with diverse data sources using natural language, automate data retrieval, and generate detailed planning documents, addressing a long-standing challenge in enterprise analytics.

Isotopes AI, a new venture spearheaded by Arun Murthy, the former CTO of Scale AI and a co-creator of Hadoop, has officially launched, securing a substantial $20 million in seed funding. The company aims to tackle one of the most persistent challenges in the realm of big data: the disconnect between intricate data infrastructure and the business professionals who need to leverage that data for decision-making.

At the core of Isotopes AI’s offering is Aidnn, an advanced AI agent designed to democratize access to enterprise data. Aidnn empowers business managers to interact with their data using natural language queries, eliminating the need for specialized technical skills. This agent can pull information from a wide array of sources, including finance applications, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, and various cloud storage solutions. Beyond simple data retrieval, Aidnn is capable of automating complex multi-step processes such as data extraction, normalization, and aggregation, and can even generate detailed planning documents.

Arun Murthy brings a wealth of experience to Isotopes AI. Two decades ago, he played a pivotal role in the development of Hadoop at Yahoo, a project that ignited the big data revolution. He later co-founded Hortonworks, which achieved a public listing within four years. Despite subsequent industry shifts, including Hortonworks’ merger with Cloudera, Murthy observed a critical and ongoing problem: even within leading data companies, executives often struggled to access timely and relevant information. He recounted, “It was embarrassing. We were a big data company selling this,” referring to instances where executives couldn’t answer analysts’ detailed operational questions due to inaccessible data. After his tenure at Cloudera, Murthy joined Scale AI as CTO in 2021, an experience he describes as “earning a PhD in modern AI systems,” which deepened his understanding of AI model behavior and improvement.

Murthy reconnected with former Hortonworks colleague Prasanth Jayachandra and brought on Gopal Vijayaraghavan to form the founding team of Isotopes AI. The company officially established itself in late 2024, with seed funding led by Vab Goel at NTTVC. While Isotopes AI enters a competitive market, facing incumbents like Salesforce’s Tableau and other AI agent analytics startups, its sophisticated approach, including data cleaning and context memory capabilities, positions it as a significant player in bridging the data-to-decision gap for enterprises.
