ABBYY recently concluded its third annual AI Pulse Developer Conference and Hackathon, held from July 9-10, 2025, in Austin, Texas. The event brought together 35 talented entrants who developed innovative solutions utilizing Document AI, AI agents, and generative AI technologies to address real-world enterprise problems. Over 300 attendees witnessed the unveiling of these cutting-edge applications.
The hackathon featured four winning teams across various categories, demonstrating the practical power of AI. Best Overall App: Team Deloitte with ‘Spend Guard’
Comprising Kaustubha Uday Vaidya, Rithi M, S Shanthaseelan, and Md. Shahid Akhtar, Team Deloitte secured the top honor. Their solution, ‘Spend Guard,’ automates the scanning, interpretation, and validation of business expense receipts. It leverages ABBYY Vantage for data extraction and integrates agentic AI, specifically Gemini, to ensure policy compliance by instantly flagging non-compliant expenses and providing reasons for the flags. This innovation significantly accelerates expense claim processing, reduces manual effort, and helps organizations minimize errors and policy violations.
Best Use of an ABBYY Product: Team McKinsey with ‘Smart Translator’
Led by Sathish Kumar Murugan, Team McKinsey developed ‘Smart Translator,’ a solution designed to overcome language barriers in global document processing. This application utilizes ABBYY Vantage for intelligent data extraction from scanned or image-based documents and integrates ChatGPT for instant, context-aware translation. Sathish stated, “Participating in the ABBYY hackathon was an inspiring journey of innovation and collaboration. Building Smart Translator showed us how AI and intelligent OCR can come together to solve real-world challenges with speed and accuracy.” The solution eliminates the need for manual data entry and translation, saving time, reducing errors, and fostering more collaborative work environments.
Best Integration of Third-Party AI: Team Telstra with ‘Insurance AIdvisor’
Krishna Kumar S and Madhu Shankar from Team Telstra were recognized for ‘Insurance AIdvisor,’ an AI-driven assistant that simplifies complex health insurance policies. Their solution integrates ABBYY Vantage and OCR with a suite of third-party AI tools including spaCY, OpenAI Embeddings, ChromaDB, LangChain Agents, and Gradio.
Student Excellence Award (Honorary Mention): Team SILO AI with ‘SILO AI’
Sarvottam Bhagat’s team received an honorary mention for ‘SILO AI,’ a unified document automation toolkit. This tool analyzes various document types such as invoices, KYC forms, and contracts, suggests the most appropriate ABBYY model for processing, and routes the data through an n8n workflow, delivering results via Gmail and Slack. Sarvottam Bhagat remarked, “The ABBYY Developer Conference Hackathon was a phenomenal learning experience. We competed against established firms, and the hands-on integration of multiple AI agents with ABBYY’s document processing tools was both challenging and rewarding.”
