Among the key offerings, Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, equipped with enterprise data protection, is now available at no cost to all IU users over the age of 18. This tool, built into the Microsoft Edge browser, is approved for use with University-Internal data, providing a secure environment for AI interaction. Additionally, Google Gemini, a powerful generative AI chatbot, is freely accessible to all IU students, faculty, and staff, working seamlessly across web and mobile platforms and also approved for University-Internal data.
Further expanding its free AI toolkit, Indiana University provides Google NotebookLM, an AI-powered research tool designed to assist users in interacting with their own documents through summaries, study guides, and audio overviews. This tool is also available at no cost to the entire IU community and is approved for University-Internal data. The university also highlights Chat AIU, an AI-powered tool built on Microsoft Azure OpenAI, which offers customizable chatbot experiences tailored for university needs, prioritizing data privacy and providing context-aware responses.
Beyond just providing tools, Indiana University is actively developing and offering educational resources. The Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning (CITL) at Indiana University Bloomington provides an IU Canvas course on Generative AI, allowing students and staff to learn the basics and explore advanced applications. The CITL also offers workshops, such as a planned GenAI Curricular Mapping workshop for early summer 2025, to guide departments in integrating digital literacy and AI skills into their curricula.
