TLDR: India’s IT Secretary, S. Krishnan, announced that Artificial Intelligence is significantly enhancing governance efficiency, leading to a 25% faster resolution of public grievances through systems like CP-GRAMS. He also noted India’s relative insulation from AI-driven job displacement.
On Monday, July 21, 2025, S. Krishnan, the Secretary for Electronics and Information Technology, delivered the Abhay Tripathi Memorial Lecture at the United Service Institution of India, where he highlighted the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on governance. Secretary Krishnan stated that AI is introducing substantial efficiencies across various governmental functions.
A key achievement he cited was the acceleration of grievance redressal. According to Krishnan, the use of AI in CP-GRAMS, the Union Government’s primary grievance redressal portal, has resulted in grievances being addressed, on average, 25% faster. This improvement underscores AI’s practical application in streamlining public services and enhancing responsiveness.

Beyond grievance redressal, Krishnan also pointed to AI’s potential to aid in critical financial processes such as credit scoring and loan disbursement, indicating a broader scope for AI integration in the nation’s economic infrastructure. He further addressed concerns regarding AI’s impact on employment, asserting that India is ‘relatively more insulated from job loss concerns’ stemming from generative AI. This, he explained, is due to the ‘much, much smaller’ percentage of white-collar employment in India compared to other parts of the world, suggesting a different risk profile for AI-driven job displacement within the country.
