Huawei Unveils HarmonyOS 6 with Advanced AI Agents and Seamless Apple Device Interoperability

TLDR: Huawei has officially launched HarmonyOS 6, its latest operating system, featuring over 80 integrated AI agents designed to enhance user experience and simplify app development. A significant new capability is direct file sharing with Apple iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices, fostering cross-ecosystem connectivity. The update also brings performance improvements and bolstered security features.

SHENZHEN, China – October 23, 2025 – Huawei has officially rolled out HarmonyOS 6, its newest proprietary operating system, marking a significant leap in its software ecosystem. The launch, which follows extensive developer testing, introduces a suite of enhancements, most notably the integration of over 80 AI agents and groundbreaking direct file-sharing capabilities with Apple devices.

The centerpiece of HarmonyOS 6 is its robust AI agent framework, the Harmony Intelligent Agent Framework (HMAF). This framework is designed to simplify the creation of AI-powered applications, allowing developers to build interactive digital assistants that can understand context, make intelligent decisions, and engage in conversations without needing extensive AI expertise or large research budgets. Huawei has already seen the emergence of more than 80 such AI agents on the Xiaoyi Intelligent Agent Hub, which serves as the built-in app store for these AI-driven tools. Examples include an upgraded Xiao Yi Assistant supporting 16 dialects and image editing, a Ctrip AI travel assistant, a Damai smart agent, and an Ant Health Manager, all aimed at enriching multi-scenario intelligent applications. Richard Yu Chengdong, chairman of Huawei’s consumer business group, confirmed that over 50 AI agents from prominent Chinese platforms like Weibo and Ximalaya will be available to consumers at launch.

A major highlight of HarmonyOS 6 is its unprecedented ability to facilitate direct file transfers with Apple’s iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices. This feature allows users to quickly share photos, documents, and links between Huawei and Apple hardware simply by bringing them close, eliminating the need for mobile data or complex setups. This move signifies Huawei’s commitment to breaking down ecosystem barriers and enhancing interoperability across different tech platforms.

Beyond AI and cross-platform sharing, HarmonyOS 6 delivers notable performance and security upgrades. The system boasts a 15% improvement in operational response compared to its predecessor, HarmonyOS 5, and offers an additional 35 to 51 minutes of battery life, thanks to optimizations powered by the Ark engine. Security has also been bolstered with a new AI-driven fraud prevention system, specifically designed to protect against family-related fraud risks and enhance overall user data security.

Huawei’s HarmonyOS continues to demonstrate strong growth and market acceptance. The previous iteration, HarmonyOS 5, has been installed on over 23 million devices. In the competitive Chinese market, HarmonyOS has consistently outperformed Apple’s iOS for six consecutive quarters, underscoring its robust market position and user adoption.

The development of HarmonyOS 6 reflects Huawei’s strategic evolution from a hardware-centric company to a leading software and services provider. This shift has been significantly influenced by US Entity List restrictions imposed since 2019, prompting Huawei to innovate in technology development and market positioning. The “AI-first” approach embedded in HarmonyOS 6 positions it as a foundational platform for next-generation computing experiences, where operating systems act as intelligent intermediaries that anticipate, learn, and respond on behalf of users. The new OS is expected to be available on more than 90 Huawei devices, including upcoming flagship models like the Mate 70 and Pura 80 smartphones.
