TLDR: Honey Health, an innovative AI platform for healthcare organizations, has successfully raised $7.8 million in seed funding. The company is dedicated to deploying specialized AI agent teams that autonomously manage complex administrative workflows within healthcare systems, aiming to alleviate operational burdens, enhance efficiency, and enable care teams to dedicate more time to patient care.
Honey Health, a pioneering force in healthcare technology, today announced it has successfully closed a $7.8 million seed funding round. The investment was spearheaded by Pelion Ventures, with significant contributions from Streamlined, Burst Capital, and 8-Bit Capital. This capital injection will fuel the company’s mission to transform healthcare’s administrative landscape through the deployment of autonomous AI agents.
The healthcare sector is currently grappling with immense operational pressures. Non-clinical staff turnover rates are alarmingly high, ranging from 33% to 40% annually, while administrative workloads continue their relentless climb. Traditional, fragmented point solutions often fall short, demanding constant human oversight and failing to integrate seamlessly, which ultimately strains care teams and prolongs patient wait times.
Matt Faustman, co-founder and CEO of Honey Health, articulated the company’s vision: “Healthcare organizations are stuck between two broken models: point solutions that only solve narrow tasks and a constant struggle to hire and retain back-office staff. We’re offering something fundamentally different: AI agent teams that work autonomously in the background to complete entire workflows. Our customers wake up to finished work, not more tasks to manage.”
Since its launch in December, Honey Health has rapidly expanded its reach, partnering with over 100 medical groups and health systems. Customers have reported substantial annual profit gains, ranging from $50,000 to $65,000 per provider. These gains are attributed to reduced backfill costs for high-turnover administrative roles and the ability to scale operations more efficiently, allowing organizations to onboard more revenue-generating providers without a proportional increase in back-office staff.
Dr. Kashif Latif, co-owner of AM Endocrinology, a prominent endocrinology practice in the southeastern United States, lauded the platform, stating, “Using Honey Health is like magic. Our back-office work just gets done inside our EHR as if a staff member had completed it.”
Honey Health’s platform is meticulously designed to address the specific challenges faced by mid-market organizations, including diverse EHR environments, lean IT departments, and complex, multi-vendor tool stacks. Unlike conventional copilot solutions that necessitate human intervention or external portals that add to management overhead, Honey’s AI agents function as skilled virtual staff members. They log into systems, navigate interfaces, and execute entire workflows from inception to completion.
The company’s AI agents currently automate a range of critical workflows common across various specialties and primary care settings, including:
* Data Fetching: Retrieving necessary data from external sources such as labs, devices, and other systems.
* Note Preparation: Generating visit-ready patient notes and charts.
* Orders and Refills: Managing post-visit orders and prescription refills.
* Fax Triage: Efficiently sorting, routing, and filing faxes while extracting essential details.
* Prior Authorizations: Overseeing the complete prior authorization process.
At the core of Honey Health’s technology are its proprietary Loop Framework and Hive Protocol. These innovations enable AI agents to integrate with most EHRs in under 30 days, comprehend the unique workflows of each team, and execute comprehensive tasks that would typically require multiple disparate solutions. This flexibility ensures that organizations can leverage Honey’s capabilities regardless of their EHR mix, a crucial advantage for managing diverse platforms.
Honey Health was co-founded by Matt Faustman and Xiao Zhang, both of whom previously held leadership positions in AI, product, and engineering at LinkedIn. Their paths crossed at LinkedIn after Faustman’s prior company was acquired by the platform. Both founders share personal experiences with chronic diseases and the frustrations of care delays caused by administrative bottlenecks, with Faustman having lived with Type 1 Diabetes for a decade.
Tyler Hogge, Partner at Pelion Ventures, expressed strong confidence in Honey Health’s approach: “The market has grown exhausted with patchwork point solutions that create more complexity than they solve. The future belongs to compound platforms that can orchestrate entire workflows autonomously across systems. Honey represents this next generation, where AI doesn’t just assist with tasks, but completes them end-to-end. This isn’t about incrementally improving the old model; it’s about replacing it entirely.”
