TLDR: Actors Matthew McConaughey and Michael Caine have officially partnered with AI audio company ElevenLabs to create licensed, synthetic versions of their voices. This collaboration, announced on November 11-12, 2025, aims to ethically leverage AI voice technology for various commercial uses, including McConaughey’s newsletter and Caine’s inclusion in ElevenLabs’ new ‘Iconic Voice Marketplace’.
In a significant move that highlights the evolving relationship between Hollywood and artificial intelligence, Oscar-winning actors Matthew McConaughey and Michael Caine have announced separate deals with New York-based AI audio company ElevenLabs to license their distinctive voices for AI cloning. The partnerships were unveiled on November 11-12, 2025, with ElevenLabs launching its ‘Iconic Voice Marketplace’ as part of the initiative.
Matthew McConaughey, who has been collaborating with ElevenLabs since 2022 and has also invested an undisclosed sum in the company, plans to utilize the technology to produce a Spanish-language audio version of his popular newsletter, ‘Lyrics of Livin’,’ using his own AI-generated voice. In a statement, McConaughey expressed his admiration for the company, saying, ‘Since our first conversation, I’ve been impressed by how the ElevenLabs team has taken the magic of the core technology and turned it into products that creators, enterprises, and storytellers use daily.’ He further encouraged innovators in the field, stating, ‘To everyone building with voice technology: keep going. You’re helping create a future where we can look up from our screens and connect through something as timeless as humanity itself — our voices.’
Veteran actor Michael Caine, 92, will have his voice made available through ElevenLabs’ new ‘Iconic Voice Marketplace’ and its ElevenReader app for approved clients. Caine emphasized the preservation aspect of the partnership, remarking, ‘For years, I’ve lent my voice to stories that moved people — tales of courage, of wit, of the human spirit. Now, I’m helping others find theirs. With ElevenLabs, we can preserve and share voices — not just mine, but anyone’s.’ He added, ‘ElevenLabs is at the very forefront of technology, using innovation not to replace humanity, but to celebrate it. ElevenLabs gives everyone the tools to be heard. It’s not about replacing voices; it’s about amplifying them, opening doors for new storytellers everywhere. I’ve spent a lifetime telling stories. ElevenLabs will help the next generation tell theirs.’
The ‘Iconic Voice Marketplace’ is designed as a two-way platform that connects interested brands and creators with the rights holders of various celebrity and historical voices for licensed use in advertisements, narration, and other audio projects. The initial roster includes 28 voices, featuring figures such as Amelia Earhart, Mark Twain, Babe Ruth, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Maya Angelou, Alan Turing, Judy Garland, John Wayne, Laurence Olivier, Liza Minnelli, Lana Turner, Burt Reynolds, and Thomas Edison.

ElevenLabs asserts that the marketplace was established to ‘set a new standard for responsible use of voice technology’ and to ensure that ‘the people behind the voices are always in control.’ This initiative directly addresses a ‘key ethical challenge in AI-driven media creation by enabling the ethical sourcing and licensing of some of the world’s most recognizable voices,’ particularly amidst ongoing lawsuits against AI tech companies concerning consent and copyright infringement.
