TLDR: Google DeepMind has unveiled Genie 3, an advanced AI world model capable of generating interactive 3D environments in real-time with remarkable visual consistency and object retention, marking a significant stride towards Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
Google DeepMind has announced Genie 3, its latest artificial intelligence world model, which represents a substantial advancement in the creation of dynamic, interactive 3D environments. Unveiled on August 5, 2025, Genie 3 is touted as a pivotal step towards achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
This new AI model is capable of generating interactive 3D worlds in real-time, maintaining visual consistency even as users navigate through them. According to Google DeepMind, Genie 3 can produce dynamic environments that are navigable at a smooth 24 frames per second, retaining consistency for several minutes at a resolution of 720p. A key innovation in Genie 3 is its enhanced ‘memory’ capability; unlike previous iterations, it can remember and retain elements such as wall markings or object positions even when the user moves the camera away and then returns. This ability to maintain object persistence is a significant improvement for creating more immersive and believable virtual experiences.
Genie 3 builds upon its predecessors, notably Genie 2, which was introduced in December 2024. While Genie 2 could generate consistent worlds for up to 60 seconds and allowed for around 10-20 seconds of interaction, Genie 3 extends this interaction time to ‘a few minutes’ while preserving consistency. Genie 2 was trained on a large-scale video dataset and exhibited emergent capabilities such as object interactions, complex character animation, physics, and the ability to model and predict the behavior of other agents, functionalities likely inherited and enhanced in Genie 3.

The development of Genie 3 is seen as a major leap in AI-driven virtual environments, with potential applications spanning gaming, virtual reality, and advanced AI product testing. Currently, access to Genie 3 is restricted to a select group of academic researchers and creative professionals, indicating its early-stage deployment for specialized use and further development.
