Google Cloud and Additive Catchments Forge Alliance for AI-Driven River Health Monitoring in the UK

TLDR: Additive Catchments and Google Cloud have announced a strategic collaboration to deploy AI-powered infrastructure aimed at improving river health across the UK. This partnership will leverage Additive Catchments’ CMaaS® platform, powered by Google Cloud technologies, to provide real-time environmental data and insights, enabling better decision-making for regulators, utilities, and communities.

LONDON, July 9, 2025 – Additive Catchments and Google Cloud today announced a significant strategic collaboration at the Google Cloud Summit London, aimed at revolutionizing river health monitoring across the United Kingdom. The partnership seeks to establish a trusted, AI-powered infrastructure that will provide high-integrity, real-time environmental data across entire catchments, fostering improved decision-making among regulators, utilities, investors, and other key stakeholders.

This initiative is expected to yield substantial benefits, including cleaner water, healthier aquatic ecosystems, and more efficient compliance with environmental regulations. At the core of this collaboration is CMaaS® (Catchment Monitoring as a Service), Additive Catchments’ flagship platform. CMaaS® functions as a real-time diagnostic layer for rivers, delivering crucial environmental data, AI-powered early warnings, and interactive dashboards tailored for various users, including regulators, utilities, investors, and local communities.

The CMaaS® platform will harness the robust capabilities of Google Cloud technologies, including BigQuery, Vertex AI, Earth Engine, and Looker, to ensure the delivery of instant, high-integrity insights across river basins. Rob Passmore, CEO of Additive Catchments, emphasized the synergy of the partnership, stating, “This alliance combines the agility and environmental expertise of Additive Catchments with the scale and technical excellence of Google Cloud. It ensures clients have access to consistent, secure, and credible data services, driving a new standard of innovation in environmental decision-making.”

Maureen Costello, Vice President at Google Cloud, also commented on the collaboration’s potential impact: “We’re proud to collaborate with Additive Catchments to tackle one of the world’s most urgent environmental challenges. This work exemplifies how cloud technology, responsibly applied, can promote substantial ecosystem resilience while enhancing public trust.”

To facilitate widespread deployment and scalability, Additive Catchments has engaged Capgemini as its lead implementation and cloud integration partner. Capgemini brings a proven track record in environmental data engineering, digital governance, and AI-led transformation. The CMaaS® platform is further supported by a network of technology and delivery partners, including Siemens, The Rivers Trust, and AtkinsRéalis.
