Google Bolsters TeraWulf’s $1.8 Billion AI Infrastructure Expansion, Securing Equity Stake

In a strategic move signaling a major shift in the digital infrastructure landscape, tech giant Google has committed substantial backing to TeraWulf, a prominent Bitcoin miner, as it pivots towards providing high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI) workloads. This collaboration involves Google backstopping $1.8 billion of Fluidstack’s lease obligations, a critical step in securing project-related debt financing for TeraWulf’s ambitious AI expansion.

The agreement, announced on August 14, 2025, grants Google a warrant to acquire approximately 41 million shares of TeraWulf common stock, which, if exercised, would represent an approximate 8% pro forma equity stake in the company. This investment underscores Google’s growing interest in expanding its AI infrastructure footprint amidst exploding demand for cloud computing and generative AI capabilities.

TeraWulf has entered into two 10-year HPC colocation agreements with Fluidstack, an AI cloud platform operator. Under these contracts, TeraWulf will deliver more than 200 megawatts (MW) of critical IT load from its Lake Mariner data center campus in Western New York. This facility is specifically designed for liquid-cooled AI workloads, making it well-suited for the intensive demands of AI computing.

The initial 10-year term of these agreements is valued at approximately $3.7 billion in committed revenue. Furthermore, two optional five-year extensions could push the total potential revenue to an impressive $8.7 billion, providing TeraWulf with a decade or more of predictable income in a rapidly evolving industry.

Deployment of the new AI infrastructure is already underway, with the first phase of approximately 40 MW expected to come online in the first half of 2026. The full deployment of over 200 MW is planned by the end of 2026. The total project cost is estimated at $8-10 million per MW of critical IT load.

Following the announcement, TeraWulf’s shares surged significantly, with some reports indicating a jump of over 43%, trading at $7.83, signaling strong market confidence in the company’s strategic pivot from Bitcoin mining to AI infrastructure. This move positions TeraWulf among a select group of operators capable of delivering massive computing capacity at scale, leveraging its existing infrastructure and low-cost, sustainable power sources to meet the burgeoning global demand for AI computing power.
