TLDR: Gold Coast Health has successfully implemented UiPath automation technology, significantly streamlining administrative and patient care processes. This initiative has redirected over 40,000 hours of administrative work annually back to direct patient care, drastically reducing image accessibility times and accelerating patient referral processing, ultimately enhancing both patient outcomes and staff efficiency.
Gold Coast Health has embarked on a significant digital transformation journey, integrating UiPath automation technology to revolutionize its patient care and administrative operations across Queensland. This strategic adoption aims to alleviate pressures from processing times for patient referrals, mitigate broader workforce shortages, and bridge communication gaps between general practitioners and hospitals.
The impact of this automation has been substantial, with Gold Coast Health reporting that over 40,000 hours of administrative work are now redirected annually to direct patient care. A key achievement highlighted is the dramatic reduction in clinical image accessibility time, which has plummeted from 19 hours to a mere 2-30 minutes – a remarkable 99.8% improvement. This real-time access to crucial clinical images is particularly vital for after-hours and weekend care, ensuring timely medical decisions.
Furthermore, the automation has profoundly affected the handling of patient referrals. Gold Coast Health manages over 130,000 referrals each year, and the new system has accelerated the transfer and entry of information across multiple systems. The objective is to reduce appointment wait times by one to two days and enhance the efficiency of call centre operations, improving the overall patient journey.
Peter Graves, Area Vice President ANZ for UiPath, commented on the initiative, stating, “Gold Coast Health is at the forefront of emerging agentic automation technology that unifies AI agents, robots and people on a single system to enable dynamic workflows and real-time decision making across complex processes. The result is improved staff experiences and enhanced patient care.” This sentiment was echoed by Kirsten Hinze, Senior Director, Digital Experience at Gold Coast Health, who remarked, “Our partnership with UiPath has been instrumental in driving our digital transformation journey. By automating time-consuming administrative tasks, we can redirect valuable resources towards enhancing the quality of patient care.”
