Global Enterprises Lag in Responsible AI Preparedness Amidst Agentic Era Shift, Infosys Report Reveals

TLDR: A new report by the Infosys Knowledge Institute indicates a significant gap in the adoption of Responsible AI (RAI) practices among global enterprises. Despite 78% of companies recognizing RAI as a growth driver, only a mere 2% have implemented sufficient controls, leading to widespread financial and reputational damages from AI-related incidents.

The Infosys Knowledge Institute (IKI), the research arm of Infosys, has released a comprehensive study titled ‘Responsible Enterprise AI in the Agentic Era,’ highlighting a critical disparity between the perceived importance of Responsible AI (RAI) and its actual implementation across global enterprises. The report, published on August 14, 2025, surveyed over 1,500 business executives and conducted interviews with 40 senior decision-makers across Australia, France, Germany, the UK, the US, and New Zealand.

The findings reveal that while a substantial 78% of surveyed companies view RAI as a significant driver of business growth, a striking contrast emerges with only 2% having established adequate RAI controls. This lack of preparedness leaves businesses vulnerable to various risks in the rapidly evolving ‘Agentic Era’ of AI.

The study meticulously examined the repercussions of poorly managed AI systems, identifying issues such as privacy breaches, ethical lapses, bias or discrimination, regulatory violations, and inaccurate or harmful predictions. Alarmingly, the report states that 77% of organizations have reported financial losses, and 53% have suffered reputational harm due to AI-related incidents.

Despite these challenges, executives maintain an optimistic outlook on RAI’s potential. The report notes that 83% of senior leaders believe that future AI regulations will encourage, rather than impede, the rollout of new AI initiatives. However, most companies estimate they are currently underinvesting in RAI by approximately 30%, creating a substantial gap between the speed of AI adoption and the readiness of governance frameworks.

Infosys urges businesses to reframe their perspective on RAI, transitioning from viewing it merely as a reactive compliance measure to embracing it as a proactive strategic advantage essential for navigating the complexities and maximizing the benefits of the Agentic AI era.
