TLDR: AI research startup Gibran has successfully raised $2.6 million in a seed funding round led by Together Fund. The capital will be utilized to develop a novel class of adaptive AI systems that draw inspiration from natural biological processes, aiming to enhance human creativity and decision-making rather than replace it.
Bengaluru-based AI research startup Gibran announced today that it has secured $2.6 million in seed funding. The round was spearheaded by Together Fund, with the primary objective of developing a new generation of adaptive, scale-free artificial intelligence systems. These innovative systems are designed to augment human creativity and decision-making capabilities.
Gibran’s unique approach to AI development is deeply rooted in principles derived from evolutionary biology and complex adaptive systems. The company aims to redefine the collaboration between artificial intelligence and humans, fostering open-ended, non-linear interactions. This involves integrating large language models (LLMs) with nature-inspired methodologies, moving beyond conventional automation.
According to Govind Balakrishnan, one of Gibran’s co-founders, the core philosophy behind their work is that ‘AI shouldn’t replace people, it should expand how they think, create, and decide.’ The startup’s research is focused on building AI systems that can adapt and evolve in response to user needs, prioritizing creativity, autonomy, and ethical alignment over sheer computational scale.
The founding team brings a diverse and robust set of expertise to the venture. Suzanne Sadedin, a co-founder, is an evolutionary biologist and complexity theorist, providing the scientific foundation for their nature-inspired models. Srikant Chakravarti contributes his experience in distributed AI infrastructure, while Edgar specializes in generative systems. Govind Balakrishnan leads the product vision and go-to-market strategies.
Together Fund, known for its investments in AI-native startups across the India-US corridor, expressed strong confidence in Gibran’s distinctive vision. Manav Garg, a founding partner at Together Fund, commented on the investment, stating, ‘This is not just about productivity, it’s about human flourishing.’ This highlights the investor’s belief in Gibran’s potential to create AI that genuinely benefits human capabilities.

The newly acquired funding will be strategically deployed to expand Gibran’s research team, further develop its core platform, and explore early applications in various domains that demand adaptive, human-aligned AI solutions. In a market where AI tools are increasingly converging around commoditized LLM wrappers, Gibran is positioning itself at the forefront of developing systems that can evolve, self-organize, and respond to context in ways that more closely resemble biological intelligence than rigid programmed logic.
