On the marketing front, companies like Popmenu and Lunchbox are providing independent operators with personalization capabilities previously exclusive to large chains. These platforms generate content, promotions, and automated email outreach based on guest behavior, and recommend dishes or test pricing strategies based on past orders. These tools are designed to operate in the background, guiding outcomes without requiring operators to be data scientists.

Despite the rapid adoption, some challenges remain. Generative descriptions can sometimes be overly flowery, and human staff remain irreplaceable for certain aspects of hospitality. However, in an industry characterized by thin margins and rising customer expectations, AI tools are becoming essential.
