TLDR: Fortuna Health, an AI-powered healthcare startup dubbed ‘TurboTax for Medicaid,’ has raised $18 million in Series A funding led by Andreessen Horowitz. This investment comes as new federal legislation, the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act,’ tightens Medicaid requirements for 80 million Americans, accelerating the need for efficient enrollment solutions.
Fortuna Health, a New York-based healthcare technology startup, has successfully closed an $18 million Series A funding round, with prominent venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz leading the investment. This latest infusion brings the company’s total funding to $22 million. The significant backing arrives at a pivotal time, following the signing of the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ by President Donald Trump on July 4, which has introduced more stringent requirements for Medicaid beneficiaries across the United States.
The new legislation mandates Medicaid renewals every six months, a shift from the previous annual cycle, and requires recipients to provide proof of at least 80 hours of work each month. These changes are set to impact approximately 80 million Americans currently relying on Medicaid, creating an urgent demand for streamlined application and renewal processes.
Fortuna Health, founded in 2023 by Nikita Singareddy, Cydney Kim, and Ben Wesner, aims to modernize the often-outdated and cumbersome Medicaid enrollment system. The company’s software leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to significantly expedite the application process, reducing the time it takes to submit and renew Medicaid applications from up to 45 days to less than a minute. The AI technology is specifically designed to identify common errors, such as missing pay stubs, before applications are submitted, thereby minimizing delays and rejections.

According to Nikita Singareddy, the new policy changes have ‘forced our hand to move quicker on expanding into all 56 U.S. states and territories,’ indicating a rapid nationwide expansion strategy for Fortuna Health. The company’s innovative approach is positioned to assist millions of Americans in navigating the increasingly complex landscape of Medicaid eligibility and compliance, especially in light of the recent federal reforms.
