TLDR: FairPrice Group is revolutionizing its retail operations through a comprehensive ‘Store of Tomorrow’ initiative, heavily integrating artificial intelligence and data analytics. This strategic shift, in collaboration with Google Cloud, aims to deliver hyper-personalized shopping experiences, enhance operational efficiency, and engage customers more effectively. The group has reportedly achieved a remarkable 100x return on advertising investment by deploying AI agents capable of interacting with shoppers in their native dialects.
Singapore’s largest retailer, FairPrice Group, is at the forefront of retail innovation with its ambitious ‘Store of Tomorrow’ (SOT) initiative, unveiled at the National Retail Federation’s Big Show Asia Pacific 2025. This program signifies a bold leap into the future, leveraging artificial intelligence, automation, and biometric technologies to redefine the supermarket experience across both physical and digital platforms. The first rollout is scheduled for the FairPrice Finest outlet in the Punggol Digital District, opening in the third quarter of 2025.
Central to the SOT program is a strategic AI collaboration with Google Cloud, utilizing its robust infrastructure, data, and generative AI stack, including Vertex AI and Gemini models. This partnership is designed to transform every customer interaction into a personalized experience, addressing the rapidly evolving needs and preferences of consumers. Vipul Chawla, Group CEO of FairPrice Group, emphasized this point, stating, ‘The only certainty in retail is how quickly consumer needs, tastes, and preferences evolve. Through our Store of Tomorrow programme, we want to reimagine how innovation and technologies like GenAI and data analytics can make things easier on the wallet and experience.’
The initiative encompasses a suite of advanced digital solutions. Among these are ‘Smart Carts,’ already piloted at FairPrice Finest Sengkang Grand Mall, which feature screens guiding customers, offering nearby promotions, and enabling scan-and-go payments. ‘Vision AI’ utilizes in-store CCTV and advanced analytics to monitor shelf stock levels, queue lengths, and safety hazards, prompting real-time interventions. Furthermore, ‘Grocer Genie,’ an AI-driven portal co-developed with Google Cloud, Tata Consultancy Services, and FlutterFlow, streamlines staff workflows, provides intelligent task assignments, and offers natural language responses to operational queries, such as automatically assigning cleanup tasks from a photo of a spill.
In a significant stride towards hyper-personalization, FairPrice Group’s AI agents are reportedly engaging shoppers effectively in their native dialects. This tailored communication approach has yielded impressive results, with the group achieving a reported 100x return on advertising investment. This demonstrates the power of AI in creating more relevant and impactful connections with customers.

Beyond customer experience, the SOT program aims to free up manpower, streamline operations, and support broader sustainability goals. Karan Bajwa, Google Cloud’s Asia Pacific President, lauded FairPrice Group’s vision, remarking, ‘The sheer ambition of FairPrice Group’s vision, coupled with their relentless commitment to implementation at speed and scale, is forging the blueprint for the future of retail — not just in Singapore, but internationally.’ The program plans to pilot over 20 new digital solutions annually for the next three years, including innovations like biometric checkout, where customers can register palm prints for seamless payments.
