F5 Bolsters Security Platform with Advanced AI Data Leak Prevention for Enterprise AI Workloads

TLDR: F5 has unveiled significant AI-powered enhancements to its Application Delivery and Security Platform (ADSP), introducing real-time data leakage detection and prevention capabilities. These updates, including an enhanced F5 AI Gateway and expanded BIG-IP SSL Orchestrator, aim to safeguard sensitive enterprise data within AI-driven environments, address ‘Shadow AI’ risks, and ensure compliance amidst rapid AI adoption.

India, August 5, 2025 – F5 has announced substantial AI-powered upgrades to its Application Delivery and Security Platform (ADSP), designed to fortify sensitive enterprise data within the burgeoning landscape of AI-driven environments. These latest capabilities are poised to offer real-time data leakage detection, comprehensive encrypted traffic inspection, and bolstered protection against unauthorized AI usage, commonly referred to as ‘Shadow AI’. The introduction of these features is particularly timely, as enterprises globally accelerate their AI adoption while simultaneously grappling with escalating data privacy and compliance challenges.

Kunal Anand, Chief Innovation Officer at F5, articulated the prevailing dilemma facing corporate leadership: “The core tension in every boardroom today is the race to adopt AI versus the mandate to protect the firm’s data. Forcing a choice between the two is a losing strategy. We’re eliminating that choice. By providing deep visibility into encrypted AI conversations, we’re giving leaders the controls to stop data leakage and govern AI use, effectively turning the CISO from a gatekeeper into the primary enabler of secure innovation.”

The new functionalities are highlighted by two key enhancements:

F5 AI Gateway Enhancements: Powered by F5’s recent acquisition of LeakSignal, the AI Gateway now incorporates inline data classification, robust policy enforcement, and prompt-level protection specifically tailored for large language model (LLM) interactions. This allows organizations to precisely control data flow, with options to block, redact, or log sensitive information moving into and out of AI systems. These capabilities are planned for release later this quarter.

Expanded BIG-IP SSL Orchestrator: This solution is being enhanced with AI-focused protections, offering real-time decryption and inspection of encrypted traffic. Its purpose is to detect and prevent unapproved AI usage and potential data leaks across complex hybrid and multicloud environments. This functionality is expected to be available later in 2025.

F5 emphasizes that these additions are designed to simplify compliance. Through centralized dashboards, intuitive policy controls, and detailed audit logs, organizations can maintain comprehensive compliance visibility across all applications, APIs, and AI environments without compromising performance. This strategic move aims to empower CISOs and IT leaders to facilitate AI innovation securely, while maintaining stringent control over data governance and their overall security posture.

The company’s 2025 State of AI Application Strategy Report, which compiles feedback from 650 global IT leaders and 150 AI strategists, underscores the urgency of these solutions. The report indicates that while two-thirds of organizations demonstrate ‘moderate AI readiness,’ most still lack robust governance and cross-cloud management capabilities concerning performance, integration, and security. F5’s analysis also reveals that 71% of organizations currently leverage AI to enhance security, yet only 31% have deployed AI firewalls. The average organization utilizes three AI models, often across multiple computing environments, highlighting the distributed nature of AI adoption and the corresponding security challenges.
