Emerson Unveils First GenAI-Enabled Automation Advisor for Power and Water Industries

TLDR: Emerson has launched the Ovation™ AI-enabled Virtual Advisor, the first generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) advisor integrated into an automation system specifically designed for the power and water sectors. This new solution, part of Emerson’s Ovation 4.0 Automation Platform, provides real-time insights, detects anomalies, forecasts maintenance issues, and empowers strategic decision-making through natural language interaction, aiming to enhance efficiency and reliability of critical infrastructure.

PITTSBURGH – July 15, 2025 – Emerson (NYSE: EMR), a global leader in industrial technology and advanced automation solutions, today announced the launch of its groundbreaking Ovation™ AI-enabled Virtual Advisor. This marks a significant milestone as the first generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) advisor to be seamlessly integrated into an automation system specifically tailored for the power and water industries.

The Ovation™ AI-enabled Virtual Advisor, a key addition to Emerson’s robust Ovation 4.0 Automation Platform, is engineered to deliver real-time intelligence crucial for optimizing operations and bolstering the resilience of vital critical infrastructures. The system provides dynamic insights that enhance efficiency, facilitate the early detection of anomalies, accurately forecast potential maintenance issues, and empower operators with data-driven strategic decision-making capabilities.

One of the core strengths of the Ovation Virtual Advisor lies in its embedded localized GenAI, which offers dynamic system guidance and contextual support. Users can quickly access comprehensive Ovation system documentation, perform troubleshooting steps, proactively address maintenance concerns, and identify optimization opportunities—all through intuitive natural language interaction. This innovative approach simplifies complex operational tasks and makes advanced analytics accessible to a broader range of users.

Bob Yeager, president of Emerson’s power and water solutions business, emphasized the critical need for such intelligent systems in today’s challenging environment. “As they navigate greater demand, complexity, and climate variability, operators of today’s critical infrastructure need intelligent systems to deliver reliable power and clean water,” stated Yeager. He added, “Using GenAI, our Ovation Virtual Advisor will help customers more efficiently manage these essential systems through clear operational awareness, automated routine tasks, and advanced data analysis. Intelligent systems help improve reliability and extend the life of existing infrastructure, paving the way for more consistent, sustainable operations.”

Designed with security as a paramount concern, the advisor utilizes local, pre-trained AI models. These models are built upon extensive Emerson and customer-provided system information, capturing qualitative behavior at the control layer to ensure safe and accurate results. Furthermore, the AI models powering the Ovation Virtual Advisor can be customized and fine-tuned by uploading domain-specific data and operator feedback, enabling customers to make more informed operational and business decisions that drive competitive advantage.
