SEATTLE – August 11, 2025 – EdgeRunner AI, a pioneering company specializing in domain-specific, air-gapped, and on-device AI agents for military and enterprise applications, today announced the strategic appointment of Jack FitzGerald as its inaugural Chief Science Officer (CSO). This move is set to significantly bolster the company’s scientific and technological leadership, with FitzGerald tasked with leading EdgeRunner AI’s comprehensive AI research and strategy initiatives.
FitzGerald brings a wealth of experience to EdgeRunner AI, having spent the last decade at Amazon. His tenure at Amazon included building and scaling industry-leading AI research organizations. He initially contributed to product management within Amazon retail and later served as a science leader for Amazon Alexa. Most recently, FitzGerald held the esteemed position of principal scientist, where he played a pivotal role in leading Amazon AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) efforts, including the development of the Amazon Nova foundation models.
Prior to his distinguished career at Amazon, FitzGerald contributed his expertise to the Department of Defense. His roles included serving as a nuclear physicist at both the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and the Air Force Institute of Technology. Academically, FitzGerald holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the United States Air Force Academy and a Master of Science in Nuclear Physics from the Air Force Institute of Technology.
