DVC Pioneers AI-Driven Investment Strategy, Launches New Series A/B Fund After Replacing Human Analysts

TLDR: Davidovs Venture Collective (DVC) has announced a groundbreaking shift in its investment strategy, replacing its team of human analysts with an AI-driven community to manage a new $75 million (approximately Rs 6,000 crore) fund. This fund will focus on Series A and B startups, particularly within the artificial intelligence sector, marking a significant move towards AI-powered investment operations.

San Francisco-based Davidovs Venture Collective (DVC), a firm founded by husband-and-wife duo Marina Davidova and Nick Davidov, has made a radical move in the venture capital landscape by entirely replacing its human analyst team with artificial intelligence systems. This strategic overhaul coincides with the launch of their new $75 million fund, equivalent to approximately Rs 6,000 crore, dedicated to investing in Series A and B startups, with a specific emphasis on the burgeoning artificial intelligence sector.

For over a year, DVC has been transitioning away from traditional human analysis. The firm previously employed five human analysts, whose positions have now been dissolved. Instead, AI tools are being leveraged for critical investment functions including deal sourcing, evaluation, due diligence, portfolio monitoring, and memo preparation. This makes DVC one of the first venture capital funds to operate its core investment analysis without any human analysts on staff.

Despite this extensive automation, Marina Davidova emphasizes that human judgment remains indispensable. She noted that ’emotional intelligence and founder evaluation cannot yet be replicated by algorithms,’ highlighting the continued need for human insight in certain aspects of the investment process. To bridge this gap and integrate human expertise, DVC now relies on a network of 170 limited partners (LPs). These LPs, who include professionals and founders from leading tech companies such as OpenAI, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Tesla, SpaceX, and Perplexity, contribute part-time, utilizing AI-driven tools to assist in managing investments. This hybrid model aims to combine the efficiency and analytical power of AI with the nuanced judgment of experienced human investors.
