TLDR: DHL Supply Chain has announced a strategic partnership with AI startup HappyRobot to integrate AI agents into its global operations. This initiative aims to significantly boost process efficiency, improve customer experience, and enhance employee engagement by automating repetitive tasks like scheduling, data entry, and communications. The deployment builds on over 18 months of AI validation and is already showing measurable impact across various use cases.
Bonn, Germany – DHL Group is significantly advancing its enterprise-wide artificial intelligence strategy through a new collaboration between its contract logistics division, DHL Supply Chain, and the innovative AI startup HappyRobot. This partnership marks a pivotal step in deploying ‘agentic AI’ to streamline operational communication and elevate both customer experience and employee engagement across global operations.
According to Sally Miller, CIO of DHL Supply Chain, the company is ‘integrating AI agents to drive greater process efficiency for customers while making operational roles more engaging and rewarding for employees by automating repetitive and time-consuming tasks such as manual data entry, routine scheduling, and standardized communications.’
DHL Supply Chain has already successfully implemented HappyRobot’s AI agents in several regions and across various use cases. These include automating appointment scheduling, conducting driver follow-up calls, and coordinating high-priority warehouse activities. The AI agents are designed to autonomously manage phone and email interactions, leading to faster, more consistent, and scalable communication processes.
This strategic deployment is not a new venture for DHL; the company has been systematically identifying and validating operational use cases for generative and agentic AI technologies for over 18 months. Current deployments are already handling hundreds of thousands of emails and millions of voice minutes annually, demonstrating a measurable impact on efficiency and customer focus.
Pablo Palafox, CEO of HappyRobot, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, ‘At HappyRobot, we envision AI workers coordinating global supply chain operations – not just moving data, but actively managing workflows.’ He further highlighted that DHL recognized early the potential of AI agents as a new operating layer that brings ‘speed, visibility, and consistency to logistics.’
Beyond this specific partnership, DHL’s broader AI strategy encompasses a wide range of applications aimed at boosting operational efficiency, enhancing customer interaction, and promoting sustainability. This includes leveraging AI for predictive analytics to forecast demand, optimizing smart warehouse operations, and exploring autonomous delivery systems.
DHL is also strategically integrating AI to address potential workforce gaps and streamline various internal processes. AI-powered solutions are being deployed in data management, customer support, and sales proposal generation, enabling faster and more accurate logistics solution designs and tailored customer proposals. The company adopts a ‘product funnel approach’ to ensure smooth AI integration through phased rollouts, minimizing risks and maximizing benefits.
