Singapore’s DBS Bank has achieved a significant global accolade, being named the ‘World’s Best AI Bank’ in the inaugural Global Finance AI in Finance Awards 2025. This prestigious recognition, announced on October 15, 2025, highlights DBS’s pioneering efforts and substantial investments in artificial intelligence and digital strategy over the past decade.
The bank’s journey into AI began in 2014, leading to what Global Finance describes as an ‘early and extensive deployment of AI models, strong experimentation culture, data-driven workforce, and robust execution capabilities.’ Joseph Giarraputo, Founder & Editorial Director of Global Finance, lauded DBS for implementing over 1,500 AI models across more than 370 use cases, projecting an economic impact exceeding SGD 1 billion in 2025. This commitment is further underscored by DBS’s transparent measurement of AI value in its annual reports and its PURE framework for ethical AI development.
DBS’s AI applications span various critical areas, significantly enhancing both customer experience and internal operations. For customers, AI-driven hyper-personalised nudges assist in making more informed investment and financial planning decisions. Relationship managers are also equipped with deeper insights, enabling them to serve clients more effectively. Internally, AI plays a crucial role in enhancing fraud protection, optimising risk management, and empowering employees. The bank’s generative AI tool, ‘iCoach,’ for instance, helps employees craft personalised career and upskilling roadmaps, fostering long-term growth within the organisation.
Tan Su Shan, CEO of DBS, expressed pride in the recognition, stating, ‘This award is a testament to our relentless pursuit of innovation and the significant investments made over the past decade. Our strong foundation has enabled us to scale transformative AI innovations across all parts of the bank – from enhancing fraud protection to empowering employees and optimising risk management.’ She further emphasized DBS’s commitment to responsible AI, ‘As DBS advances on our journey to be an AI-enabled bank with a heart, we remain committed to leveraging AI responsibly, blending machine intelligence with human empathy to reinforce the trust our customers place in us.’
In addition to the top honour, DBS also secured two other global awards for its AI deployment: ‘Best Corporate/Institutional AI Bank’ and ‘Best Enhanced Customer Experience’ in the consumer AI banks global sub-category. The bank’s comprehensive AI strategy was even chronicled in a 2024 Harvard Business School case study, marking it as the first of its kind for an Asian bank.
