David Jones’ Brandtech Group Pioneers AI-Driven Marketing Transformation

TLDR: David Jones, founder and CEO of The Brandtech Group, is at the forefront of leveraging generative AI to revolutionize the marketing and advertising industry. His company’s AI platform, Pencil, has demonstrated significant improvements in speed, cost-efficiency, and performance for content creation. Brandtech is also investing in talent development through initiatives like the UK’s Centre for Creative AI and integrating advanced AI models like Google’s Veo 2.

David Jones, the visionary founder and CEO of The Brandtech Group, is leading a profound transformation in the marketing and advertising landscape through the strategic adoption of generative artificial intelligence (AI). Jones asserts that AI is not merely a tool but ‘the new language of creativity,’ poised to disrupt the industry more significantly than mobile technology or the internet. He challenges traditional advertising agencies, stating they are ‘missing in action’ in embracing this technological shift.

At the core of Brandtech’s AI strategy is its proprietary platform, Pencil. This generative AI marketing tool has showcased remarkable efficiencies and performance gains. In the last quarter, Pencil reportedly generated 235,000 content assets for three of the world’s top 10 advertisers. These assets were produced 62% faster, 55% cheaper, and demonstrated 40% better performance compared to traditional methods. Jones is bullish on the potential for ‘mindblowing’ efficiencies, suggesting that large marketing budgets, such as L’Oréal’s annual $13 billion spend, could be substantially reduced through smarter AI integration.

Brandtech operates on a hybrid tech-and-services model, allowing clients to either utilize its agencies, including Jellyfish and Gravity Road, to run internal AI content studios or directly plug into Pencil’s technology. The company also generates licensing fees from its AI solutions. Jones emphasizes that AI will not replace human creativity but rather enhance it, enabling junior staff with minimal traditional training to produce professional-grade content using tools like Veo 3.

To further cultivate AI talent, The Brandtech Group is launching the UK’s Centre for Creative AI in partnership with University College London (UCL) and the Royal College of Art (RCA). This center, set to open in October 2025, aims to equip emerging creatives with the skills to collaborate with and leverage AI developments, preparing them for an industry in the midst of a ‘gen AI arms race.’

In a significant development in April 2025, Brandtech announced a collaboration to integrate Google’s video-generation model, Veo 2, into its Pencil platform. Jones hailed 2025 as ‘the year of exponential scaling’ for generative AI, noting that integrating Veo 2 provides clients with the most advanced video generation tool available. This integration, powered by Google Cloud, combines Google’s Gemini for text generation, Imagen 3 for image creation, and Google Cloud’s ABCD framework for asset analysis within a single interface. Pilot projects with Google marketing teams have shown that AI-generated ads delivered 20% to 30% reductions in time and costs for high-end creative executions, and 80% to 90% savings for mass-scale executions. Japan Airlines (JAL) is already leveraging Veo 2 and Gemini to create AI-generated films for passenger experience, showcasing evocative visuals of Japanese destinations on select flights in 2025.
