Crustdata Secures $6 Million Seed Funding to Advance Real-Time Data Infrastructure for AI Agents

TLDR: Crustdata, a Y Combinator Fall 2024 graduate, has successfully closed a $6 million seed funding round led by Y Combinator and A Capital. The investment will fuel the expansion of its real-time data infrastructure, which powers AI agents with fresh, accurate information from across the web. The company has demonstrated remarkable growth, scaling revenue from $770,000 to over $4 million in just seven months with minimal marketing spend.

Crustdata, an emerging leader in real-time data infrastructure for artificial intelligence, has announced the successful closure of a $6 million seed funding round. The investment was co-led by prominent venture capital firms Y Combinator and A Capital, with additional participation from General Catalyst, SV Angel, and Phosphor Capital. This significant capital injection is earmarked to accelerate the development of Crustdata’s platform, expand its reach to enterprise customers, and bolster its engineering and go-to-market teams.

The company’s core offering is a sophisticated data layer equipped with real-time crawlers that continuously index the web, providing AI agents with up-to-the-minute information. This capability allows businesses to monitor companies and individuals online, enabling them to identify promising prospects, founders, and recruiting candidates before they become widely recognized. The technology is already being leveraged by top-tier AI sales development representatives, recruiting platforms, and investment teams globally.

Crustdata, a graduate of Y Combinator’s Fall 2024 cohort, has showcased impressive growth metrics since its inception. The company reported scaling its revenue from $770,000 to over $4 million in a mere seven months, achieving profitability with a lean sales team of one and zero outbound marketing expenditure. This rapid expansion was largely attributed to the company’s strategy of ‘dogfooding’—using its own product to drive growth.

Garry Tan, CEO and Founder of Y Combinator, expressed strong confidence in Crustdata, stating, “Crustdata is one of the strongest companies to come out of the Fall 2024 YC batch. We were so impressed with the founding team and how quickly they’ve made inroads with B2B customers that we hired them to source and deliver data to help us find and recruit startups to join YC.” Tan further emphasized the future role of AI, adding, “Very soon, humans will no longer be the largest consumers of the web. Crustdata will be the gateway to the internet for agentic apps.”

The platform’s efficacy is underscored by its adoption by notable entities. Y Combinator itself utilizes Crustdata to power its founder discovery and recruitment initiatives. Dharmesh Shah, Founder of HubSpot, integrates Crustdata’s data as the foundational layer for his popular product, agent.ai. Furthermore, Ryan Reynolds’ company MNTN employs Crustdata to equip its sales team with a customized and automated AI SDR for pipeline generation and outreach.

Abhilash Chowdhary, co-founder and CEO of Crustdata, highlighted the critical role of data quality for AI. “AI Agents are only as intelligent as their data sources, so we’re excited to work with investors who understand both AI infrastructure and B2B data,” he remarked. “Our next phase involves expanding to enterprise customers who need AI agents that can act on fresh, accurate data in real-time.”

Co-founder Chris Pisarski added, “We will use the funds to hire top engineers interested in solving the challenging data-for-agents problem as well as to build out our GTM team.” The company’s focus remains on addressing the growing demand for robust AI infrastructure by providing a solution that ensures AI agents operate with the most current and precise information available.
