TLDR: Confluent is empowering enterprises to achieve AI-first transformation by modernizing data infrastructure with real-time streaming, enabling responsible AI scaling, improved governance, and accelerated business transformation. The company emphasizes the critical need for real-time, trustworthy data to feed modern AI models, addressing the limitations of legacy batch processing systems.
The global pursuit of artificial intelligence (AI) is compelling enterprises to confront a significant, often overlooked challenge: outdated data infrastructure. While many organizations are eager to develop and deploy AI models, a majority still depend on legacy systems incapable of delivering the real-time, reliable data that contemporary AI demands. Confluent is stepping in to bridge this gap, enabling an “AI-first transformation” through its real-time data streaming platform.
Confluent’s approach focuses on helping businesses modernize their data infrastructure with real-time streaming, facilitating the responsible scaling of AI, enhancing data governance, and accelerating overall business transformation, particularly evident across Southeast Asia. The company highlights that the promise of AI risks being undermined by a failure to modernize the underlying data layer. To counteract this, businesses are increasingly adopting streaming data platforms that can provide high-volume, dependable data as it is generated.
Built on Apache Kafka and augmented with tools like Apache Flink, Confluent’s platform allows organizations to support real-time decision-making at scale, thereby operationalizing AI more effectively and responsibly. Mike Agnich, GM and VP of Product at Confluent, stated, “Modern AI workloads require immediate access to high-quality, contextual data.” He emphasized that for enterprises applying AI to critical functions such as fraud detection, personalization, supply chain forecasting, or operational automation, every millisecond counts. Delays, even minor ones, can lead to inaccurate recommendations, missed revenue opportunities, or compliance issues.
Traditional data systems, often relying on extract-transform-load (ETL) or ELT processes, were not designed to support AI at an enterprise scale. These methods typically involve collecting, cleaning, and storing data in a warehouse hours or even days later, breaking the crucial real-time loop necessary for effective AI. Confluent advocates for a “Shift Left” approach, moving data processing, validation, and governance closer to the data source. This strategy aims to reduce downstream bottlenecks, ensuring data is clean, contextual, and compliant before it enters any AI pipeline.
Confluent’s platform is designed to build a real-time data foundation for AI, enabling contextual inferences on vast amounts of data by delivering curated, governed, and trustworthy streaming data to AI systems, vector databases, agents, and applications. Key capabilities include:
Stream: Making real-time data streams first-class citizens, allowing them to be shared instantly with one or more AI systems and applications.
Connect: Integrating data from and to existing services and applications with over 120 pre-built and custom connectors, including integrations with leading AI tools.
Process: Utilizing Flink to enrich relevant data streams on the fly and enabling the use of any model within FlinkSQL to interrogate and transform data with natural language.
Govern: Centrally managing, auditing, and applying policies with Stream Governance, ensuring data security in transit across major public clouds.
Recent advancements in Confluent Cloud for Apache Flink and Tableflow further enhance its AI and analytics capabilities. These updates streamline the development of real-time AI applications and improve access to various data sources. New features in Apache Flink include seamless LLM inference, vector search, and built-in machine learning functionality, allowing teams to run open-source LLMs directly in Confluent Cloud. Tableflow updates improve access to operational data, with full integration of Apache Iceberg and an early-access program for Delta Lake, ensuring a consistent real-time “source of truth” for AI-driven applications.
