TLDR: Commvault Systems Inc. has announced two new offerings, Conversational AI and Data Rooms, aimed at transforming data management, protection, and activation in the AI era. These innovations, set to enter early access in late 2025 and become generally available in 2026, are designed to unify cyber resilience with responsible AI practices for hybrid cloud environments. Conversational AI provides a natural-language interface for managing resilience tasks, while Data Rooms offer a secure space to prepare backup data for AI platforms.
Commvault Systems Inc., a prominent provider of data protection solutions, has introduced two significant innovations: Conversational AI and Data Rooms. These advancements are poised to redefine how enterprises manage, protect, and leverage their data in the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence. The announcements precede the company’s SHIFT 2025 conference, highlighting Commvault’s strategic focus on integrating cyber resilience with responsible AI for the hybrid cloud era.
The first offering, Conversational AI, presents a natural-language interface that enables users to interact with Commvault Cloud through leading generative AI assistants, including ChatGPT Enterprise and Anthropic’s Claude. This system empowers teams to configure, manage, and monitor data resilience tasks using everyday language. It operates under stringent compliance and security protocols, built upon Commvault’s policy-based Model Context Protocol server. This approach fosters ‘agentic resilience,’ where AI not only answers queries but also executes authorized actions, such as initiating backups or verifying recovery statuses. Commvault has addressed potential concerns regarding compliance and security by ensuring every interaction is governed by its robust authentication and encryption controls, aligning with frameworks like the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Risk Management Framework. Crucially, Commvault emphasizes that no customer data is utilized to train external AI models, and all interactions remain securely within enterprise boundaries.
Complementing this, Data Rooms provide a secure and controlled environment for organizations to link trusted backup data with internal or external AI platforms. This solution transforms historical data into AI-ready assets while upholding compliance through integrated classification, policy-based redaction, and comprehensive audit trails. Data Rooms facilitate the export of data in open formats, such as Apache, enabling enterprises to confidently harness their secondary data with their chosen AI platforms to unlock new opportunities for intelligence, innovation, and business growth.
