TLDR: Cogent Security has officially launched from stealth, announcing an $11 million funding round led by Greylock Partners. The company aims to revolutionize vulnerability management by deploying an ‘AI taskforce’ of specialized agents, designed to automate and accelerate the identification, assessment, and remediation of cyber threats, addressing the growing challenges posed by AI-driven attacks and the inefficiencies of traditional security workflows.
SAN FRANCISCO – Cogent Security, a new player in the cybersecurity landscape, has emerged from stealth mode with a significant $11 million in seed funding, spearheaded by venture capital firm Greylock Partners. The company is set to transform the critical domain of vulnerability management through its innovative application of agentic AI, providing businesses with an automated and real-time solution to neutralize cyber threats.
The launch comes at a crucial time when the cybersecurity industry faces unprecedented challenges. The proliferation of generative AI has led to an explosion in code and software development, consequently driving a sharp increase in security vulnerabilities. Compounding this issue, threat actors are leveraging the same AI technology to exploit these vulnerabilities at an accelerated pace, putting immense strain on traditional, manual vulnerability management frameworks.
Vineet Edupuganti, co-founder and CEO of Cogent Security, highlighted the urgency of the problem: “With AI, threat actors are moving faster than ever, which is putting a huge strain on legacy vulnerability management frameworks. These frameworks rely heavily on manual workflows like context gathering, risk assessment, and coordination between security, infrastructure, and IT teams. However, these human-driven processes are simply too slow and inefficient to keep up with modern threats.”
To counter this, Cogent Security has developed what it calls the world’s first ‘AI taskforce’ for vulnerability management. This platform deploys specialized, purpose-built AI agents that act as force multipliers for in-house security teams. These agents are designed to ingest real-time context, dynamically surface the most critical risks, identify high-ROI fixes, and autonomously coordinate the entire remediation process, from initial detection to final resolution. This approach aims to significantly reduce the mean time to remediation for critical vulnerabilities and unlock greater efficiency for security, engineering, and IT teams.
Cogent Security was founded by a team with deep expertise in security and AI: Vineet Edupuganti (CEO), Geng Sng (CTO), and Thanos Baskous (VP, Engineering). Over the past decade, the founders gained firsthand experience with the inefficiencies of vulnerability remediation while working at security-conscious companies such as Abnormal AI, Coinbase, and Blackstone.
Greylock Partners, known for incubating and backing prominent cybersecurity firms like Palo Alto Networks, Abnormal AI, Okta, and Wiz, led the funding round. Saam Motamedi and Corinne Riley, Partners at Greylock Partners, expressed strong confidence in Cogent’s mission and team. “Vulnerability management is right now arguably the most important problem in cybersecurity, which in turn is one of the most valuable markets to adopt AI,” they stated. They further praised the Cogent team as “one of the strongest we have seen in cybersecurity, bringing a rare blend of security and AI expertise.”

In addition to Greylock, the funding round saw participation from Lockstep and a consortium of strategic angel investors from leading organizations, including OpenAI. The newly secured capital will be strategically deployed to expand Cogent’s elite team of applied AI and distributed systems engineers, many of whom have built platforms and infrastructure at mega-scale companies such as Coinbase, Tesla, and Google Research. Furthermore, the investment will fuel continued advancements in Cogent’s proprietary language models and underlying infrastructure, solidifying its position at the forefront of AI-driven cybersecurity solutions.
