Clay Secures $100 Million in Series C Funding to Propel AI-Driven Sales Automation and GTM Engineering

TLDR: Clay, a leader in AI-powered sales automation, has successfully closed a $100 million Series C funding round led by CapitalG, Alphabet’s growth fund. This investment boosts Clay’s valuation to $3.1 billion and brings its total funding to $204 million. The company, which helps businesses automate go-to-market workflows and has pioneered the ‘GTM Engineer’ role, is on track to triple its revenue to $100 million this year.

New York, NY – August 5, 2025 – Clay, the innovative AI go-to-market (GTM) development platform, today announced it has raised $100 million in Series C funding, elevating its post-money valuation to an impressive $3.1 billion. The round was spearheaded by CapitalG, Alphabet’s independent growth fund, underscoring the significant investor confidence in Clay’s AI-driven solutions for sales and marketing automation. This latest infusion of capital brings Clay’s total funding to $204 million.

The Series C round saw strong participation from existing investors, including Meritech Capital, Sequoia Capital, First Round Capital, BoxGroup, and Boldstart. Sapphire Ventures joined as a new investor, further diversifying Clay’s robust investor base. This funding comes just six months after the company’s Series B expansion, highlighting its rapid growth and market traction.

Founded in 2017 by Kareem Amin and Nicolae Rusan, with Varun Anand joining as co-founder in 2021, Clay has established itself as a pivotal player in transforming traditional sales and marketing operations. Its platform leverages AI and integrates with over 150 data sources to automate complex workflows such as lead qualification, data entry, and personalized outreach at scale. This allows sales and marketing teams to focus on strategic relationship-building and closing deals, rather than repetitive tasks. The AI-driven system also offers predictive analytics and scalable automation, supporting business growth without proportional increases in staffing.

Clay’s impact extends beyond its platform, as it has pioneered the creation of the ‘GTM Engineer’ role, an AI-native profession that combines technical skills with go-to-market strategy. Kareem Amin, CEO and co-founder of Clay, stated, ‘GTM engineering represents the first true AI-native profession, and we believe that it will be tech’s next big job category.’ This new role, created just two years ago, has already seen significant adoption across the tech industry, with over 280 GTM Engineer positions currently posted at leading companies like Cursor, Webflow, Notion, and Lovable. Furthermore, seven independent bootcamps teaching GTM engineering skills have graduated over 2,500 students, and Clay’s community spans 60 clubs across 30 countries.

The company boasts a rapidly expanding customer base of over 10,000 clients, including prominent AI companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Cursor, as well as fast-growing enterprises like Canva, Intercom, and Rippling. Clay is on track to generate $100 million in revenue this year, tripling its performance from the previous year. Additionally, its ecosystem of data and integration partners is projected to generate $50 million in revenue in 2025, with its network of 108 agencies worldwide representing hundreds of millions in collective revenue.

The newly secured capital will be instrumental in accelerating Clay’s product development and further supporting the widespread adoption and growth of the GTM engineering career path. ‘We’re fostering an entire economic ecosystem,’ Amin added. ‘Our goal is to democratize the ability to build scalable revenue systems, regardless of technical background.’ This funding round reflects a broader trend of venture capital investment in AI-driven enterprise tools, as firms increasingly seek companies that can leverage artificial intelligence to transform traditional business models and create long-term value.
