Cassava Technologies has announced the launch of its pioneering AI Factory for Africa, a strategic move set to significantly accelerate the continent’s digital economy. This state-of-the-art facility will be powered by NVIDIA supercomputers, providing cutting-edge artificial intelligence computing capacity to businesses, governments, and researchers across Africa. The initiative underscores Africa’s growing commitment to investing in robust AI infrastructure, cultivating local talent, and establishing ethical frameworks to ensure its competitive standing in the global digital landscape.
The AI Factory is designed to empower African innovators to develop solutions tailored to the continent’s unique challenges and opportunities, spanning critical sectors such as agriculture, health, finance, and education. It will deliver AI as a Service (AIaaS), leveraging Cassava’s pan-African high-speed, ultra-low-latency, fiber-optic network and its network of sustainable, energy-efficient data centers.
Initial deployment of NVIDIA accelerated computing and AI software, utilizing NVIDIA Cloud Partner (NCP) reference architectures, is planned for Cassava’s data centers in South Africa by June 2025. The company intends to expand these capabilities to its other data center facilities in Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, and Nigeria. This expansion will ensure that African entities have access to the necessary AI computing power to scale operations, boost productivity, and drive innovation, all while keeping sensitive data securely within Africa’s borders.
