CapeStart’s MadeAi™ Platform Receives Major AI-Powered Upgrade to Accelerate Life Sciences Literature Review

TLDR: CapeStart, founded by Gaugarin Oliver, has announced a significant upgrade to its generative AI platform, MadeAi™, specifically enhancing its MadeAi-LR solution. Unveiled at the ISPOR Montreal 2025 Conference, this update aims to revolutionize scientific research and regulatory processes in life sciences by halving literature review time while maintaining 90% accuracy. The new capabilities include advanced AI-aided and AI-as-Reviewer modes, comprehensive data extraction from various formats, customizable screening criteria, and integrated quality appraisal tools, enabling pharmaceutical, biotech, and medtech organizations to manage complex evidence synthesis workflows more efficiently.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – CapeStart, Inc., a leading innovator in artificial intelligence solutions, has announced a substantial upgrade to its award-winning generative AI platform, MadeAi™. The enhancements, particularly to its flagship solution MadeAi-LR, were unveiled at the ISPOR Montreal 2025 Conference in May. This strategic development is poised to significantly streamline and accelerate scientific research and regulatory processes within the life sciences sector.

The core promise of the new MadeAi-LR release is its ability to reduce literature review time by 50% while consistently delivering a remarkable 90% accuracy rate. This advancement is critical for pharmaceutical, biotech, and medtech organizations grappling with increasingly complex evidence synthesis workflows.

Key enhancements introduced to MadeAi-LR include:

AI-Aided and AI as Reviewer Modes: The platform now offers dual modes for title/abstract and full-text screening. In AI-aided mode, the AI provides suggestions to assist two blinded human reviewers. The innovative AI as Reviewer mode allows the AI to work alongside a single human reviewer, effectively replacing a second reviewer and substantially reducing manual workload.

Customizable Screening Criteria: Users now have access to over a dozen standard criteria, including PICOS, alongside the flexibility to define their own criteria, catering to unique or novel project requirements.

Summary- and Arm-Level Extraction: This feature provides both high-level syntheses of study information and detailed, group-specific outcomes with traceable sources, facilitating quick validation and editing.

AI Agent-Enhanced Data Extraction: New AI tools are capable of extracting information from diverse formats, including text, tables, graphs, and figures, ensuring comprehensive data capture from complex clinical literature.

Integrated Quality Appraisal: Users can now directly assess the risk of bias within the MadeAi workflow, supported by visual summaries such as charts and tables for data-driven decision-making.

Gaugarin Oliver, founder and CEO of CapeStart, emphasized the impact of these advancements, stating, “Our latest release offers enhancements that allow the GenAI to support more dynamic aspects of literature review research—including AI as Reviewer, Arm-level Extraction, and Quality Appraisals—so teams can scale faster and focus on what matters most: advancing science.”

Developed in collaboration with top 15 global pharmaceutical companies, MadeAi-LR provides a centralized, end-to-end literature review environment that ensures sourcing transparency, reproducibility, and regulatory alignment. Clients utilizing the platform have reported dramatically faster turnaround times for systematic literature reviews (SLRs), clinical evidence reports (CERs), and meta-analyses, achieving immediate return on investment (ROI). This enables leaner research teams to undertake more literature reviews at scale while simultaneously improving the quality and reliability of their outputs.

Since its launch in late 2024, MadeAi has garnered significant industry recognition, including:

A Stevie® Award for AI/ML Innovation in Healthcare.

Inclusion in PM360’s 2024 Innovators list for Generative AI.
