Camunda CTO Affirms Enterprise Readiness of Agentic Automation and Orchestration

TLDR: Camunda’s Chief Technology Officer, Daniel Meyer, announced at CamundaCon 2025 that agentic automation and orchestration technologies have achieved ‘enterprise-grade’ status, overcoming previous hurdles in AI project deployment by integrating robust architectural guardrails and blending deterministic and dynamic processes for secure and scalable business applications.

During CamundaCon 2025 in New York City, Camunda’s Chief Technology Officer, Daniel Meyer, declared a significant milestone for agentic automation and orchestration, asserting that these technologies have now reached an ‘enterprise-grade’ level. This pronouncement signals their readiness for widespread adoption in business-critical processes, a notable advancement given that many agentic AI projects previously stalled at the pilot phase.

Meyer attributed the past challenges not to a lack of model capability, but to the absence of an architectural framework that could provide the necessary guardrails for deploying agents safely within critical business operations. He highlighted Camunda 8.8 as the solution, introducing standards-based, enterprise-grade agents designed to facilitate the creation and execution of high-value processes. This is achieved by seamlessly blending deterministic flows with dynamic agents, enabling productivity gains that were previously unattainable.

Camunda’s approach allows core processes, such as customer onboarding or fraud investigation, to leverage autonomous agents that can respond in real-time while adhering to essential guardrails for risk management and compliance. George Kutnerian, co-founder, president & CEO of Wellpointe, a residential assisted living services company, lauded Camunda’s orchestration capabilities. He stated, “It’s that same orchestration strength – now coupled with agentic capabilities within the governance we require – that has us excited to unlock even greater efficiency and innovation as we develop transformative care delivery models.”

The company’s latest release at CamundaCon 2025, which saw over 500 in-person and 1,300 virtual attendees, introduced new agentic capabilities aimed at simplified development, deployment, enhanced security, and greater flexibility. These features are designed to help organizations confidently design and orchestrate AI agents in critical business processes. Key innovations include an AI agent connector, enabling agents to operate autonomously within end-to-end processes and integrate with various Large Language Model (LLM) providers like Azure OpenAI or AWS Bedrock. Additionally, AI agent composable short-term memory provides agents with conversational context, allowing them to handle follow-up questions and feedback loops without impacting process performance.

According to Camunda’s 2025 State of Process Orchestration and Automation Report, a significant 84% of IT and business leaders plan to integrate more AI capabilities within the next three years. However, the report also revealed that 85% face challenges in scaling and operationalizing AI across their organizations. Camunda’s agentic process orchestration directly addresses this by offering a balance between deterministic (logic defined at design time) and non-deterministic (logic determined at runtime using AI models and data) process execution. This hybrid approach ensures compliance and standardization where required, while introducing AI-powered personalization, adaptability, and resilience.

By empowering organizations to fine-tune the level of autonomy granted to an agent, Camunda’s agentic orchestration applies the ‘best of both worlds’ to processes, whether designing agents for multi-step processes or discrete tasks. This strategic integration of AI agents within a governed framework is set to accelerate digital transformation, boost operational efficiency, and elevate customer experiences for enterprises worldwide.
