Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) has introduced a comprehensive ‘Certificate in AI Fluency’, a significant initiative aimed at empowering accounting and finance professionals to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence. Launched in April 2025, this program is designed to provide members with the critical skills needed to harness Generative AI (Gen AI) effectively within the finance sector.

Simon Hann, Group Executive of Education and Marketing at CA ANZ, emphasized the importance of this new offering, stating, “The Certificate in AI Fluency exemplifies the dynamic professional development and training initiatives CA ANZ is creating to empower our members and finance professionals to embrace Gen AI.” He further highlighted that this technology is crucial for augmenting key skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, adaptive mindset, and ethical oversight.

The 20-hour program is structured to deliver practical and immediately applicable learning. It comprises four self-paced digital micro-courses and two expert-led workshops, culminating in a practical assessment to demonstrate competency. Participants will gain a deep understanding of AI’s strengths and limitations, learn to identify opportunities for AI usage, and develop strategic plans and governance frameworks aligned with legislative standards for responsible AI implementation.

Inbal Rodnay, an AI and technology adoption expert who co-developed the curriculum alongside Peter Williams FCA, Chief Edge Officer at Deloitte’s Centre for the Edge, underscored the transformative potential. Rodnay remarked, “Developing AI literacy is the single most impactful thing that any professional can do today for their career, team and business. The certificate is a perfect starting point.” She added that the course is designed to develop lasting, meaningful skills, enabling professionals to confidently integrate AI into their workflows and stay ahead of industry changes.

A recent survey cited by CA ANZ revealed that accounting professionals are particularly enthusiastic about AI’s capacity to increase speed and efficiency (85%), reduce errors (68%), automate tasks (65%), cut costs (56%), and enhance communications (53%). The Certificate in AI Fluency directly addresses these aspirations, offering professional accreditation and fostering confidence in applying AI tools.
