C.H. Robinson Executives Highlight AI’s Role in Driving Q2 Market Share Growth and Efficiency

TLDR: C.H. Robinson Worldwide’s executives have attributed the company’s recent market share gains and improved operational metrics, particularly within its North America Surface Transportation (NAST) division, to the strategic deployment of artificial intelligence. AI agents have significantly reduced processing times for freight classification and coding, enabling faster responses to quotes and contributing to increased business wins.

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN – C.H. Robinson Worldwide, a leading global logistics provider, announced that its robust integration of artificial intelligence (AI) has been a pivotal factor in its strong second-quarter performance and continued market share expansion. During a July 30 earnings call, company executives detailed how AI-powered solutions are enhancing efficiency and competitiveness in a challenging freight market.

The North America Surface Transportation (NAST) division, a key segment for C.H. Robinson, successfully gained market share despite an environment of elevated capacity. The company reported a 1% year-over-year growth in total volumes from NAST, marking nine consecutive quarters of market share growth. While truckload volumes remained flat compared to the previous year, less-than-truckload (LTL) volume saw a 1.5% increase year-over-year.

Arun Rajan, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer at C.H. Robinson, emphasized the direct correlation between AI adoption and business success. “The faster speed provided by our AI has enabled us to respond to more quotes and win more business, thereby augmenting our market share growth,” Rajan stated. He further added that the company’s proprietary AI is instrumental in powering its pricing and costing operations, allowing for more surgical and rapid responses to dynamic market conditions through frequent price discovery.

A prime example of AI’s impact is an AI agent that determines freight class and code. In its initial months, this agent has been processing approximately 2,000 orders daily, drastically cutting down the processing time from over 10 minutes per shipment to 10 seconds or less. This significant reduction in processing time underscores the efficiency gains realized through AI.

In the second quarter, the adjusted operating margin for this division stood at 27.4%, a notable increase from 22.4% in the same period last year, indicating positive momentum driven by technological advancements.
