Brunei Emphasizes Responsible AI Development Rooted in National Values

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – On Thursday, August 29, 2025, a prominent Bruneian official underscored the critical need for responsible artificial intelligence (AI) implementation, advocating for innovation that is firmly rooted in trust and aligned with the nation’s core values. This declaration was made during the Artificial Intelligence Governance Symposium, hosted in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei.

Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, highlighted the symposium’s role as a vital forum. He stated that the event facilitated “open discussions and collaboration among government organizations, the private sector, academia, and civil society in shaping the responsible use of AI in Brunei.”

The symposium was organized by Brunei’s Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry (AITI). A key component of the event, according to AITI, was a meeting of the AI governance and ethics working group.
