TLDR: Box is significantly expanding its artificial intelligence offerings by integrating a new AI agent with Microsoft 365 Copilot and launching its own suite of AI agents. This move aims to enhance intelligent content management, allowing users to leverage AI for searching, summarizing, and acting on content across both Box and Microsoft platforms.
Redwood City, California – Box, a leading Intelligent Content Management (ICM) platform, has announced a major expansion of its artificial intelligence capabilities, deepening its integration with Microsoft’s productivity ecosystem and introducing a new generation of proprietary AI agents. These strategic advancements, unveiled on May 15, 2025, are set to transform how organizations interact with their enterprise content, making it more intelligent and actionable.
The cornerstone of this expansion is a new Box AI agent designed to work seamlessly with Microsoft 365 Copilot. This integration empowers users to securely search, summarize, and act on content stored in Box directly from within widely used Microsoft tools such as Teams, Word, and PowerPoint. According to Box CEO and co-founder Aaron Levie, this initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that data and content within Box are readily accessible to AI applications across various environments, complementing Box’s own platform. “We want to be the best place for bringing AI to content, but we know there’s lots of other things you’re going to do with AI,” Levie stated, emphasizing the goal of making Box content a part of comprehensive AI-driven answers alongside other enterprise data.
Dan Stevenson, General Manager, Copilot Ecosystem at Microsoft, lauded the collaboration, saying, “Box has been a trusted Microsoft partner for years, and we’re pleased to take our collaboration to the next level with this new Box AI Agent for Microsoft 365 Copilot.” He highlighted that combining Box’s enterprise-grade ICM platform with Microsoft’s AI-powered productivity platform will enable joint customers to effortlessly utilize Copilot’s power with all their Box-stored content, unlocking insights and actions across their enterprise tools.
Beyond the Microsoft integration, Box is also rolling out three new AI agents on its own platform, significantly enhancing its existing AI functionalities. These agents are specifically designed for:
Intelligent Search: Enabling more precise and contextual content discovery.
Deep Research: Facilitating in-depth analysis across extensive document sets.
Structured Data Extraction: Automatically pulling structured information from unstructured sources like PDFs and scanned images.
These new technologies build upon Box’s long-standing role as a secure hub for file storage and collaboration, pushing further into what the company describes as intelligent content management. The company reported robust financial performance for the fiscal year ending in January, with revenues reaching $1.09 billion, a 5% increase from the previous year, and profits soaring to $244.6 million, up from $129 million.
