BNP Paribas Launches Third UK Fintech Incubator Focused on Generative AI Innovation

TLDR: BNP Paribas Personal Finance UK has initiated its third fintech incubator program, specifically targeting generative AI (GenAI) startups. This initiative aims to foster AI-driven solutions for the financial services sector, offering selected startups mentorship, co-working space, and the chance to pilot their innovations with 100,000 users of the bank’s myCreation app. The move underscores BNP Paribas’s commitment to integrating advanced AI technologies to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency.

BNP Paribas Personal Finance UK has announced the launch of its third UK fintech incubator program, with a dedicated focus on generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) startups. This strategic move, unveiled on July 8, 2025, is designed to accelerate the development and integration of cutting-edge AI solutions within the financial services industry.

The program, run in collaboration with partners such as STEAMhouse and SuperTech WM, seeks to identify and nurture innovative startups that can leverage GenAI to improve various aspects of financial services, including customer communications, insights, engagement, understanding, and overall operational effectiveness. Successful applicants will gain access to a comprehensive support system, including flexible co-working spaces, business support services, and innovation tools provided by STEAMhouse.

A cornerstone of the incubator is the provision of mentorship from senior financial services experts, offering invaluable guidance and industry insights. Startups will also benefit from one-on-one advisory sessions and opportunities to pitch their propositions to key stakeholders. Crucially, the most promising solutions will have the chance to undergo commercial pilots with a significant user base, specifically 100,000 customers registered on BNP Paribas’s myCreation app. This real-world testing environment provides a unique pathway for concepts to evolve into fully-fledged products.

Stephen Hunt, CEO of BNP Paribas Personal Finance UK, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “To maintain our leadership in personal finance, embracing emerging technologies like AI is essential to delivering high-quality products for our partners and customers.” He further added, “The use of AI is on the rise and it’s important that we consider how we can use it to supercharge our operations.”

The bank has a proven track record with its incubator programs. Last year’s cohort saw four startups—Furbnow, CarCloud, Inicio, and Paylow—successfully progress to customer trials via the myCreation app, demonstrating the program’s effectiveness in fostering viable innovations.

Beyond the incubator, BNP Paribas is actively advancing its broader AI strategy. The bank recently deployed a large language model-as-a-service platform for its employees, providing secure and unified access to LLMs within its own infrastructure. This platform integrates open-source models, models from partner Mistral AI, and will soon incorporate models trained on internal datasets. Current GenAI applications within the bank include internal assistants, document generation, and information retrieval.

Furthermore, BNP Paribas is expanding its partnership with IBM Cloud, with plans to migrate nearly half of its applications to a dedicated IBM Cloud environment within its data centers by December 2026. This move aims to enhance security and leverage public cloud technology benefits while maintaining a private cloud-like environment for critical applications.

John Davies, CTO at Incept5 and a former Paribas alumnus, commented on the bank’s forward-thinking approach: “AI will reshape the future of finance, the only question is how fast. Traditional institutions that embrace the shift, rather than leave it to the neo-banks, will be the ones to define the post-AI era. BNP Paribas is clearly signalling its intent to be one of them.”
